Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

Whats the point in playing a game if everything is already unlocked for you?

Unlocking things by achieving something in-game isn't the same as having to pay for something that is already on the disc.

  • 12.30.2012 9:29 AM PDT

You are paying for the experience, if you can unlock what is on the disc without paying then your problem is you suck at games. Having weapons, attachments, characters or outfits locked is there to provide a challenge to add replay value to a game. It's not always fun having everything at your finger tips from the start.

Capcom fail to understand that these days

If we're talking about disk-locked content which you have to pay for, so that the developers can pretend that they made DLC for us, no. That's extremely unethical.
What do you mean "pretend"? Are you claiming that content was magically put there by developer-elves or something?

Also, how is any of this unethical?

  • 12.30.2012 9:38 AM PDT

Unlocking things through sweat, blood, and tears is very understandable. It has been a principal since the beginning of gaming. Unlocking things through buying them, when they were already on the disc, is just ridiculous!

Only ten? So women aren't entitled to vote?

If you buy a game of skyrim, what's the point if you already have all of the armor and levels. There's no progression. The whole point of buying a game is to challenge yourself. If the game just hands you everything, then where's the challenge?

  • 12.30.2012 11:07 AM PDT

Then thing you'll want is the every single unlocked so you can just keep right to the end.

It's like buying a car, but you don't have access to the trunk unless you pay $X more.

No... It's not like that at all.

The trunk is not an extra feature. It's advertised as being part of the car.

A better example would be XM Radio. A lot of cars these days come equipped with it. But guess what has to happen for you to use it?

But that's not always fun. I think there should be a save game with everything unlocked and a new game option for people who want to play that them selves.

@trueunderdog

Chapter

Narwhallace Smithington: Gone, but not forgotten. Never approve of anything lil guy. <3
Furious George: The new -blam!-

Fortunately, as BBB touched on earlier in this thread, you can vote with your wallet. Instead of -blam!-ing about what developers do, you can not buy a game where they do things like this.

You aren't entitled to the game in the exact what you way you want it. You chose to buy it, knowing how things would be. If you didn't know, it was likely because you chose not to pay attention before you purchased the game.

So if you don't like it, don't buy it. If developers notice a decrease in sales, maybe they'll change how they do things. If they don't, it's probably because your opinion is likely the minority opinion.

Of course, seeing as how many entitled people can't accept any faults of their own, this will likely be seen as the majority of consumers being stupid and ignorant, rather than owning up to the fact that one is baselessly entitled.

Didn't even read the OP. Stop acting like you're entitled. You aren't.

You paying for the rights to enjoy the game. The developers hold all the rights to everything else.

Start reading copyright laws, you might understand.

A competitive players main goal is to win.
A casuals main goal is to have fun regardless of whether that results in a win or loss.
It has nothing to do with individual skill or knowledge, it has to do with the reason you play.

If it doesn't please you, don't buy the game.

I don't get the problem with disc locked content. All games cost the same, but are of different levels of quality. As long as what was unlocked on the disc was worth the $60 retail price, what's the issue?

If developers notice a decrease in sales, maybe they'll change how they do things.

That's unlikely to happen because the casual majority will buy anything the developers release. The amount of gamers who are actually good consumers are a lot less than the amount of gamers who are bad consumers.

  • 12.30.2012 11:53 AM PDT

You purchased a game with your hard earned money to play it. If you had everything to begin with, it'd be boring. There'd be literally no point in playing Crackdown if your skills are at their full potential from the get go. Same goes for most (if not all) games, especially games like RPGs. They're entirely based on progression.

What makes a consumer good or bad? Whether or not they share your opinion?

Math rules the world.

That is like saying you are entitled to a degree because you paid for college.

Like the title says.

I think it is absolutely ridiculous that developers force people to play through their game whether it's single player or multiplayer in order to unlock things that should be already unlocked in the first place.

Why do I have to play for a certain time period in order to unlock a stupid attachments to a weapon? When I bought the game I am entitled to have everything unlocked already. I mean, purchased it with my hard earned money.

Agree?

A good consumer wouldn't put up with slimy business moves like disc-locked content. Good consumers also research the things they buy and they don't blindly buy things.

So, good consumers are ones that share your opinions... Got it. That's why I asked.

I suppose my opinion is now invalid. I must be a "bad consumer", because I do not see a problem with the practice of disc-locked content. I certainly do not consider it to be "slimy".
