Subject: Easy way to become a better person

I know I've been preaching this a lot, but you really should read The Catcher In The Rye. Holden Caulfield is a personal hero of mine, and he should also be yours.

Who wants to discuss the book?

Oh, extra discussion value: what books have you read that have changed your life?

Don't feel like reading a super-short book? I can help. Here are the main ideas of the book:

-be honest to others in terms of who you are.
-stay true to your childhood ideals.
-be overly generous.
-say what's on your mind.
-feel sorry for people even when they're in the wrong.

I'm your biggest fan!

Can not stand that book. No plot, very little characterisation. Incredibly frustrating main character.

Also, who the hell manages to get friendzoned by a prostitute?

I love The Catcher in the Rye! (Proper way to type a book title, not italicized like OP). I find much in common with Holden.

But OP, I have to say this. In Holden's spirit, you are being quite the phony with all these threads and posts.

I haven't read the book, but I heard the main character was really pretentious.

He's actually not. People just hate him because he sums what what's wrong with everyone.

If Holden had the Internet, I'm sure he would try to convince people to come to his side.

This forum is populated almost entirely by modern-day Holdens. Angsty teenagers who think of themselves as social rebels when really they're just some beta kids who don't know a damn thing about the world.
