Subject: Easy way to become a better person

"Life is constantly fleeting from your grasp even from the very day it's bestowed upon you, but the shadow of death is always there, waiting for its chance to take you away."

"Even though many may not think so, ignorance and innocence are one and the same. The only difference is that one sounds nicer."

"I once knew a man who spent his entire life contemplating where we go after our death....it's a shame he realized it a second too late to tell anyone."

-be honest to others in terms of who you are.
-stay true to your childhood ideals.
-be overly generous.
-say what's on your mind.
-feel sorry for people even when they're in the wrong.[/quote]
-Obvious.
-Not necessarily.
-Nope.
-Sometimes a good idea, not so much other times.
-Hell no. If they've done wrong, they suffer for it and get no sympathy from me.

When do you plan to stop making 8 threads everyday?

When the Flood is better, and I'm to thank for it.

Being overly generous is as bad as overly selfish otherwise those are good advice.

Life is a journey, if you spend all of it with your nose in your map, you may miss some of the best parts.

13.72 billion years in the making.

On December 1st, 2012, I met Neil deGrasse Tyson. I shook the man's hand, and even made him laugh. Not much else to do with my life now.

I understand that you're trying to encourage people to better themselves, and this a noble act, but this isn't the way to go about doing it. You don't have as much influence on the lives of these forum-goers as you think you do. Sorry. You don't need a book to understand how to live a decent life, you need a mentality built on years of good parenting and motivation.

Your attitude isn't very humble, if you truly mean what you said, what you just said...Till the flood is better, and you are to thank?

Dude, you take an internet forum FAR too seriously, and you view your role here as something more tangible than it is, or ever will be.

OT: The Catcher and the Rye - the main character is kind of a douche, pointing out what's wrong with people. People have problems, and it's a part of life.

I don't claim to have any influence in the slightest. But if even one person picks up a copy of the book due to me, I will have succeeded.

I love The Catcher in the Rye! (Proper way to type a book title, not italicized like OP). I find much in common with Holden.

But OP, I have to say this. In Holden's spirit, you are being quite the phony with all these threads and posts.

If Holden had the Internet, I'm sure he would try to convince people to come to his side.
Disagree.

He never tried to tell people what bothered him about their behaviors and phoniness. And he wanted to be a deaf-mute so he couldn't talk to people. Why would he use the internet to talk to people?

Man, I remember being in high school when we over-analyzed every book and short story we read. I became so immersed in it that I had no other option but to apply it to everyday life.

Stop doing that. Catcher in the Rye was a crap book. There's so many better books out there.

Garem, you'll be forever known as Catcher in the Rye Guy.

Holden was no perfect character, by any means. He was a bit phony himself, pretending to be nice to people while secretly hating them. He would have truly been the epitome of perfection if he would've said what's on his mind.

It's mostly the fact that you give off the air of holding yourself up on a pedestal and treating everyone like they're beneath you.

Being nice to people you don't like is part of life. You'll get nowhere in life if you decide not to deal with people.

If I've given anyone that impression, I'm truly sorry. I have never meant to seem superior to anyone in any way. That's an elitist thing to do, and I hate elitists.

Reading books that change you life? Seriously what is this because the only book I read that "change" my life are the ones with nude girls in them?

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance had a pretty profound effect on me.
