The only Empire America has is one based on it's corporations not military since both America and the UN forced the end to Empires.

Britain, France and America kept its islands because its people chose to stay with the related countries.
You can force the end o the expansion of empires but if there is a country which has an extensive series of territories own by but not incorporated therein, then it is an empire.
Then we need to go to the press's and tell them the British and French Empires still exist.

1776 called they say they still exist. Even 1945 phoned in as well.

The UK still has colonies (They are called crown dependencies now) So why isn't it still an empire? Or is it all judged on land mass?

You need not do this just as much as you need not run out and inform the masses that the United States is not and never has been a Democracy and that England is no longer a Monarchy.

Why does it matter if it is?

There's been a stigma attached to it since the time of decolonization after WWII when we began discussing the oppressive and cruel history of imperial expansion. I've never heard an argument for American Imperialism cast in a favourable way.

Me thinks he was trying to troll but yes. United States is an empire who protects its sovereignty and territories. Just many do not realise this simple truth.

Crown dependencies aren't really colonies. They're tiny islands part of the British Isles with populations amounting to suburban towns. Hardly a case for the UK being an empire.

China is the oldest Empire in the world mate, Tibet is an annexed country trying to get independence.

It was an Empire long before European states came to be, the time when European Empires started to expand was the same time China destroyed its own navy and closed its borders with its new dictatorship.

They aren't territories. Territories are under the jurisdiction of the British government. The crown dependent areas are self governing. Basically you can think of them as more independent British territories. They are different though.

People need understand territories aren't colonies. Territories are typically provinces (or states) that don't derive their power from the constitution and are under the jurisdiction of the central government.

To help you out, they are self governing they just depending on British military protection and they contribute to the Bank of England from taxes set by the government on each island.

Governor in Chief acts like the Monarch the Prime ministers (Voted for by the people) go to the governor in chief who then passes on messages to the Queen they are mainly sending laws to be signed and things like that.

Mostly traditional stuff.

I'm no expert on the intricate legalities of British Crown Dependencies. Just think of them as on the spectrum of independence between a territory, which has no independence, and Britian itself, which is a sovereign state.

Why are so many people so ignorant of this? You don't need an emperor to have an empire. A government can substitute for an emperor in modern times.
