I'll bring the tritium laser cutters if you bring the beer!

Funny story.

I'm against any ideology that makes one identify himself with a group.

I don't care how adamant you are about your identity, I will not suffer your irrational insecurity born of loneliness. You do not have a psychic link with anyone. Stop acting like your identity isn't just a choice and that any sadness that identity brings you isn't your choice.

This is for everything. Nationality, sex, culture, education, religion, philosophy, etc. If you don't think of yourself as an individual first then I'm going to treat you like the part of a sum, not a person.

Thoughts?

Antagonizing me to build a false sense of worth is so damn cute.

the flippiest poon i ever knew!

Agreed. Don't mold yourself into a group, stand out and be who you are. Personally, I seem to have defied all attempts by others to classify me into a given group. I am proud of this.

  • 12.29.2012 10:26 PM PDT

This makes sense. I don't see why any individual would want to limit their identity.

I agree with this

If you don't think of yourself as an individual first then I'm going to treat you like the part of a sum, not a person.
But I don't do this part. I treat people the same if they are their own person or they just conform to fit into a group.

Still better than you.

.....most of you, at least.

I'm against any ideology which is based around the denouncement of a person for choosing to identify in whatever way they choose.

I don't care if you believe it to be irrational for a person to do this, I will not suffer your belief that you get to decide how I live. You do not have a final say in how people behave. Stop acting like your opinion is important, or should in anyway affect my life, because of your distorted world view, and that any frustration you feel isn't merely bought forward by your illogical position.

This is for everything. Your opinions on my nationality, gender, culture, education, religion, philosophy, etc. If you feel that I must conform to your view of what is acceptable to be a person, then I'm going to treat you like you're a -blam!-, not a person.

Thoughts?

But you choose to identify with these things, so I really don't have to suffer your irrational bull-blam!-.

Did I make a derogatory remark about a group that you identify with? Well that's your problem, you chose to identify like that, be responsible.

How is my view ridiculous? If you don't understand why arbitrarly identifying with a group to a point where the emotional attachment can affect your mental state then I'm sorry for you.

Those aren't beliefs, your identity is a choice. You did choose to be insulted, I didn't choose to insult you.

I never said it didn't affect a persons mental state, it certainly could. However, your view is ridiculous because, honestly, who are you to suggest that a particular behaviour is unacceptable? Are you some authority, or what? It makes no sense.

Yes they are beliefs, and identity is not always a choice. It's affected by your circumstances, and often your experiences. If someone is insulted, it's irrelevant if they chose to be, they're still insulted, and you're still a dick. And you most certainly choose to insult a person, if you make derogatory remarks about them, or a group they identify with.

What I'm getting at is, people are allowed to do what they want. If they choose to live their life identifying with a group, then thats fine. But that doesnt mean you get to say "blah blah blah, you're stupid, you should conform to my views on how people should behave, blah blah blah".

Get the -blam!- over yourself, and learn how to be a decent human being.

Ad hominem. I have no time for you fallacious bull-blam!-.

No, identity is always a choice, people are just lazy and would rather be given their identity then make one for themselves.

Making a derogatory remark about an individual and making one about a group is completely different. When I insult you, you didn't choose to feel insulted, when I make a remark about a group that you identify with well the fact that you felt insulted is not my fault, it's yours.

People are allowed to be irrational, what they aren't allowed to do is make others responsible for that irrationality. I'm making a stand.

Ad hominem my foot. You're presenting an opinion based on your beliefs. Unless you have suddenly become super important, why are your beliefs more valid than anyone elses.

People are lazy. Other people have this strange idea that whatever they do in life is able to be replicated by everyone else.

No, it's still your fault. You're still making an insult, I'm still being insulted by it, we didnt get here without the insult.

How are they making others responsible for their irrationality? By saying "please refrain from doing something that insults me"? I thought that was called normal behaviour. You aren't making a stand, you're trying to enforce your views on everyone else.

What the hell do you even mean by this? Be responsible for your decision to insult me?

Please, human race, do this.

Posted by: SKYDROMEYour views are considerably incomplete at best, in terms of pursuing a philosophy that has truly positive effects that is. Maybe you just want a comfortable life though, most do.

My idea wouldn't be different if I were super important. That fallacy is called an appeal to authority.

I don't make other people responsible of my laziness because I couldn't justify it. I expect the same from everyone.
Posted by: SKYDROME

If my remark is not directed at you then you shouldn't feel insulted. If you do feel insulted then stop doing whatever mental gymnastics you go through just for the sake of identity. I'm not responsible of how you view yourself.

Because your standards are arbitrary. When does it stop? What if people speaking French insults me? Can I ask that they stop? No, because I would be irrational insulted. The French wouldn't be responsible.
Posted by: SKYDROME

Be responsible of how you view yourself. People are not responsible of your self esteem.

Anyway, I'm going to stop here because that's your second logical fallacy and I'm not in the mood for more.

Hanger one I just shredded with the SMGs until ammo was out and I just threw 'nades like a boss while BRing.

My experience playing Cairo Station on Legendary

You make some good points, but I have to play Devil's Advocate here; Is the world view of rejecting other world views not one in itself? For instance, does your view of rejecting identifying groups not classify yourself as part of a similar class?

I have no qualms with others finding meaning with a group; the created solidarity has historically had positive benefits on the psychological state and can, unless experiencing over-integration, reduce suicide rates. However, I do have problems with groups that find it necessary to shove their beliefs down your throat and suffer from patriarchal, egoistic, or self-serving purposes.

YOU CANNOT DEBATE AESTHETIC PREFERENCES.

I've got a fan!

I consider recognizing that we as individuals are part of something bigger and usually more important than ourselves (such as a community, a nation, a species, etc) is an important part of maturing.

I can't think of any group that actually forces outsiders to comply with their ideologies.

This is how I see it.

There's this bunch of people who role-play all their life. They seem to assume that everyone around them does the same and wants to play along.

Well I don't want to role-play, I exist, that's it. If you and your like-minded friends want to play together, be my guest, but don't force me to play pretend.
