I'm definitely a story over gameplay person. When it comes to a game, I'll look towards the story first when considering buying it. I like a story I can take a lesson from, a story that I will actually remember, a story that will/might affect me as a person. I'll sit through the worst gameplay for a great story.

Now Flood, I ask you, what do you consider to be the best video game stories?
No limit on time period here, I don't care about this generation, I'm talking of all time.

I would list a few of my favourites here, but I want to see what you can come up with.

@accordingto343

Your one stop shop for all of 343's fabulous errors and ridiculous notions in the Halo lore.

Portal, Knights of the Old Republic and The Walking Dead Game all come to mind.

There once was an ugly barnacle...anybody want to finish for me?

Deepest video game ever if you can guess it.

The Elder Scrolls series has always been my favorites.

I'm an Anarchist. I don't need a government to be a good person, but I'm glad it's here because some of you clearly do.

I know that both Halo and Zelda qualify, if you're looking beyond the game itself, considering the multiple novels depicting the Halo Universe and the Zelda Timeline itself.

To me, the most commendable would be Red Dead Redemption.

Halo 4 was deep man, so deep it made me cry.

  • 12.30.2012 12:33 AM PDT

Be not afraid, for the forest nymphs have taught me how to pleasure a women.

Not necessarily because of how deep it was...but I do love the story in Red Dead Redemption. Specifically with how it was presented and told.

I also really liked Bioshock because of how different and unique the story felt.

The story of the Assassin's in Assassin's Creed. I cannot begin to describe how much of a deep love I have for this damn series.

I'll look into this one, I've heard good things about it. But I've never gotten around to actually playing it yet.

I seriously suggest playing To The Moon if you like good game stories. Also Bastion has a great story.

  • 12.30.2012 12:38 AM PDT

I want to say Gears of War but by the end of the third game you still know next to nothing about the locust, their origins and the Queen.

  • 12.30.2012 12:38 AM PDT

In no particular order:
Assassin's Creed series
Mass Effect series
Halo series
Lost Odyssey
Eternal Sonata
Final Fantasy VII,X
Knights of the Old Republic
Bioshock
