Really? Interesting. I'll look into it.

Since people are recommending -blam!- tier shooter games, I might as well recomend something with a little more thought, get Syphon Filter 1-Logan's Shadow.

Easily beat every single shooter mentioned here.

I played Syphon Filter on Playstation. Don't remember much about it though.

Arcanum and Planet Escape: Tournament

Made me laugh, Planescape is brilliant.

-Terry Tate, Office Linebacker

-Half Life series
-Portal series
-Mass Effect series(though the quality began to decline around ME2).
-Red Dead Redemption
-Assassin's Creed series(Ezio's story)
-Call me crazy, but I actually enjoyed the Modern Warfare series storyline.
-TES IV: Oblivion
-GTA IV

Oh, and Halo. Not all of the games, though.

Seconded.
I'd also like to throw in Spec Ops: The Line.
Generic gameplay, quality story.

Halo has an incredibly deep story.

How so?

OT: Grim Fandango.

It's extreme complexity, plus it's got a lot of themes and morals in there.

I had a very similar thing, only I threw a 14 story building out of a pool and hit a kid on a paper aeroplane.

The Flood is just this awesome :D

Red Dead Redemption and L.A. Noire comes to mind.

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

But complexity doesn't make a story good, or bad. Many of the greatest stories ever told are extremely simple.

True, but the complexity works, which adds to the mystery, adding to the intrigue, adding to the story being better.

Trying to fit all the pieces together and figure out what happens next is what makes Halo stand apart in my eyes from other franchise's.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Some of the Mario stories actually get to me a bit. A tear came to my eye at Rosalinas story book.

But, I'd say Halo has a good story

What house has a rocket pod, has legs, and has a long narrow barrel that probably shoots something powerful?

Sounds like you're describing the lower half of my body, actually.

The Waking Dead, Red Dead Redemption, Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3 until the ending, Halo CE and ODST, Far Cry 3(because it was satire), Spec Ops the line, Batman AA and Arkham city, and Half-life series.

  • 12.30.2012 5:11 PM PDT

Half of the time I'm dead serious.
The other half not so much.

I find the Resident Evil lore to be really fascinating. It just feels so close to home because it poses as an actual reality (despite being set in the past/present) and the idea of terrorists using bio-hazards to wreak havoc is certainly a disturbing concept.

I also like any fantasy-esque lore from most RPG games, namely Final Fantasy entries.

"What are we holding on to, Sam?"
"That there's some good in this world, and it's worth fighting for."

My personal favorite is Heavy Rain. The plot and characters really came alive for me. Other runners-up are Planescape: Torment (of course), Alan Wake, and possibly Shadow of the Colossus, although it was more the ending that I found so poignant.

EDIT: Gah, how could I forget Journey? It's more of an allegorical, personal sort of game, but I think it's one of the most moving games available.

DOUBLE EDIT: The Witcher II is very good as well. I could go on all day naming stories that I enjoyed, but these are the ones that have stuck with me. I still catch myself thinking about Heavy Rain and its characters.

I forgot about Heavy Rain. Story was awesome, gameplay -blam!- sucks. Well, I guess it makes sense where all the productions went. I mean it was a big QTE game. Terrible. Just terrible.

It's funny; I only see two different views on Heavy Rain. Nobody disputes the characters and plot being brilliant, but I either hear "Heavy Rain had awful gameplay" or "Heavy Rain's gameplay influenced the story enough to be passable". Personally, I really liked seeing how the QTEs actually affected the story as well. However, it would have been nice to have some real gameplay, but it was refreshing not to be constantly shooting are fighting. I liked the detective sequences; I think those count as gameplay.

"So- So this means Im just going to be miserable for the rest of time?!"

"No. This means that you have to live life to the fullest. You have one life, live it well. Make sure you die without regrets. Get a new life, new mate, new family. You, out of all people, don't deserve a terrible fate of misery like that. Having nothing to look forward to is good. It makes sure you want to keep on going. Living is a right, not a privilege."

I want to say Gears of War but by the end of the third game you still know next to nothing about the locust, their origins and the Queen.

Yes you do. We know everything. You just had to pay attention, and not have it be spoonfed to you.

The Locust are just a Sentiant(barely) race of underground people, nothing else but that, and the Queen was a girl who was in the project where they turned people into sires(human-locust hybrids). The government already knew about the locust MANY years before d-day, and were already doing experiments with them. The Queen(her name started with an R, Ruby or Rose. I'll say Ruby to make things easier) was one of the many kids abducted to be experimented on, and before she was experimented on, the scientists brought her with them when they journeyed into the mountain's caves to collect some more locust. When they got in there however, the locust attacked them, ripped them apart, but didn't kill Ruby. They instead kind of nurtured her, protected her, saw her as something better. She was raised with the Locust, and she eventually started telling them what to do. She became Queen, and called herself Myrrah. She practically enslaved the Locust, and turned them into their own little civilization.

Why they attacked? The lambent started to spread, and do Myrrah started doing business with Adam Fenix. Adam Fenix was supposed to make a cure, but couldn't do so in time, so the locust started to colonize the surface.

I'm not so sure if it was because Adam needed to make a cure, or something else. I forgot. But Adam thought he could've stopped E-Day, but didn't.

It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank god that such men lived. ----------- No Bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country. (both by George S. Patton jr.)

ratchet and clank series one through four ending at deadlock.
Man were they awesome

Sounds like Shenmue. That game had QTEs for fight sequences, which worked extremely well. That game was brilliant, but it's a shame nobody has heard of it.
