I've tried to watch anime many a time, but always get disgruntled by the poor quality of shows like naurto and bleach, can you guys recommend a plot driven series that is not overly stereotypical in its style (ex 12 year old school girls with giant breasts, tenticals, etc)

Yes, I'm sleepy right now and guess that does something to me. Weird huh?

Usually you wouldn't be that helpful with someone you never talked to before.

Sir, may we ask that you tell us why you found said anime did not meet your standards? Note that we are not in anyway suggesting that your taste is -blam!- or that your opinions are less valid than anyone else's. We simply would like to collect user testimonials so that other members maybe be able to use findings in determining whether or not said anime is right for them. Thank you for your time.

A lot of it is probably a matter of preference (I'm not really one that's big on the whole moe/slice of life thing, with some exceptions). The show waited too long to do any actual character development, and since most of the serious -blam!- went down in the last 5-6 episodes, the supposed emotional moments had little to no impact on me. Again, these types of shows typically aren't my deal, so I may just be the wrong person for it. Briefly put.

And I have a firm belief that the whole iM@S franchise hypnotizes people and ruins lives.

Blue Exorcist, Shakugan no Shana, and Yu Yu Hakusho.

Thanks for your input. I found that it started fairly strong and then the age old tale of decreasing in quality as it runs longer rears it's ugly head. But I just can't stop loving Takane!

Those shows are crap IMO. The mainstream stuff usually always are.

Neither am I, but I just had to finish it for some reason. Maybe it was Yumi Hara's sensual voice that kept me in for so long.

Don't get me wrong, it was entertaining for me on a certain level, and some of the issues that came up were actually some things that were semi-relatable (I play in a band, not the same thing but you get the idea). It also probably didn't help that I did 19 episodes in one night, so there's that.

You're a Takane kind of guy, eh? Even though I don't hold the show in very high regard, I'm not exempt from having a favorite idol. I'm a Miki man.

What episode did you watch up to? The art changes later on in the anime.

Anime is like a pentagon comprised of the voice acting, animation, sound design (music and effects), story and characters, and actual directing. If any part of these do not appeal to me then it'll be difficult to get into. An anime with amazing music and voice acting will be held back with a crap story, and so is one with a great story, characters, and directing but terrible sound design. This applies to cartoons, CG, and live action as well, albeit in their respective ways.

Art style appeal is subjective so some people may like it, but I'm not the only one who has been turned off from it simply because it was disturbing to watch. It's a pity too because it is written pretty well. I've read several volumes of the manga but I can't sit through the anime at all.

how is hamd?

Just wanted to say, I recently watched all of Elfen Lied and I really like it. It was pretty disturbing but very good, I wish there was more to watch.

Read the manga?

It goes into greater depth than the anime.

I'd say leave Jacob up to this one, but what the hell.

It isn't the best site, but it's got the manga in its entirety right there.

Well I might as well have my own little contribution here and there. All I usually do is make wise cracks and smart ass comments in TAC, and now in the IRC, so it only seems fitting that I 'give back' to the community I know and love.
