A contact lens acts like a sponge. It will absorb any water it comes in contact with until it is fully hydrated. So when it became dry it started sucking water out of your cornea (the front part of the eye on which the contact rests). When a cornea becomes over or under hydrated, then the collagen fibrils within the cornea become less transparent to light. Hence, your vision looks cloudy. Once you remove the contacts and allow the cornea to hydrate itself properly, your cloudy vision will go away. This is the reason why many people can develop corneal ulcers when they sleep in contacts. If the cornea is not hydrated properly it becomes stressed and is more likely to develop an infection.
Wow. Thank you for the actual informative post.
I did not know that. Now I know why my vision gets cloudy with my contacts at night.
Would eye drops help? They help me temporarily, but they're never as effective and a fresh pair of contacts. Try removing them and putting them in their solution for a few minutes, while also using the same saline solution as eye drops. When you put your contacts back in, both them and your eyes should be hydrated.
Eh...thing is for me, I wear daily contact lenses...so I'm not sure if it would be worth it to put them in solution for just like 3 more hours of wear.
