I don't like the message this is sending. We're basically declaring the U.S. a warzone, we're condemning our own schools out of fear. Fear gets us nowhere, and fear is not what this country is based on.
Our forefathers, when greeted with fear, hit it head on taking care of much bigger and life threatening issues rather than sporadic school shootings every few years. We can't be subjected to these kinds of solutions, this is over-doing it. I'm pro-gun, but this is absolutely retarded.
For one, there's no real reason to do this. School shootings are, honestly, a rarity. Once you put the gun in the classroom there's no guarentee what will happen, even with a properly educated, trained, and trusted teacher safeguarding it. Who's to say a kid won't manage to break into wherever the weapon is held and then use that to go on a rampage? Who's to say a teacher won't flip his top and light up some kid?
We should be abstaining from violence, and any method of violence being allowed into our classrooms. We should be locking the guns out of the classrooms, just as we do knives and everything else. It's funny and all to see a picture of "Which will stop a shooter?" depicting a sign saying no weapons, and another saying armed teachers, but actual practicality of that is nil.
The fact is simple, we need to be aiming to eliminate the ability for weapons to get into the classroom, not whole-heartedly bring them in. No amount of classroom training on firearms, or safety mechanisms will stop a tragedy. It doesn't take much to break a safe or disarm somebody at all.
