So that makes it less likely that school shooting can occur how?

Common sense -----> Teachers have an extensive background check and a mental check to make sure they are safe around a gun.

So if there's a teacher whose very smart and good at preparing students for SAT's etc. but isn't very good at handling a gun, they should be fired?
Put the gun in a safe by the teachers desk that only the teachers know.
Lol theft in schools are so common. Someone would be able to open the safe if they tried.

1)Why would they get fired for not being able to shoot a gun properly get fired when the background checks and mental test are to make sure that they dont snap?

2) I would love to see a kid break into a safe in between classes

I was talking about current teachers. For example, I had an elderly teacher who was one of the best teachers in my school, but I doubt she would be able to handle a gun properly. Would they fire her for not being able to handle a gun?

Wizzy

Hell, why don't you just give the kids guns? You know, so they can defend themselves.

Just another step towards your country's inevitable self-destruction.

I still don't think it's a good idea for there to be a weapon in a class room.

Let's see how this goes.

Some different scenarios:
1) school gets sued for arming teachers
2) mainstream media condemns it
3) teacher actually stops shooting
a) teacher is hero and has her job
b) teacher is patted on the back and let go
4) there wont be any school shootings

Some more scenarios:
1) Teacher goes crazy and shoots students.
2) Student finds a way of getting the gun and shoots teachers/students.
If a teacher was going to murder their students, laws against bringing in guns wouldn't stop them.

  • 12.30.2012 1:11 PM PDT

What about armed war veterans instead of a lone school cop? They're experienced, well trained, and need a job. We can pay them to stay in the perimeter around the school so guns stay out of the classroom yet we still have defended schools.

because none of these safe's are cheap right?

even then having a trigger lock would be the next thing

On a teacher's salary? Yes. And they're not going to get a trigger lock. The size of that matched with the gun doesn't even fit in the "cheap" safes you recommended.

1) an idiot doesnt have a trigger lock on their guns, I have them on mine
2) Some of the safe's will hold a gun, the point is (which you seem to be missing in this entire thread) that the teachers use common sense. Dont put the gun where a student can get it, dont have ammo in it, put it in a safe, put a trigger lock on it, etc.

The thing you're too stupid to understand is variables. Obviously some teachers will, and obviously some wont. To say otherwise is blatant stupidity (which is obvious enough for you). I also like how you ignore how a teacher could possibly cause a shooting as if teachers haven't lost their composure before. A background check is irrelevant. It doesn't eliminate the possibility of potential danger.

Give the gun to a responsible teacher, someone who has common sense? who wont go on a shooting spree? Not all of the teachers will take the gun but there will be some. You will never be able to create a 100% safe enviorment, but I rather have someone who is knowledgeable about a firearm, has common sense and someone that everyone trusts to be defending my child because when it comes down to it, it will be him/her vs the gun man who wants to kill my child.

The school can make it mandatory that the teachers who have the firearms must keep it in a safe, have a trigger lock on the firearm, etc and have a zero excuse policy. The teachers will take the guns home with them, and before they enter work they must check to make sure its out of the kids reach. again COMMON SENSE will keep the kids safe

not every teacher will have a gun, those who can use one and have enough common sense will

If a teacher was going to their students, laws against bringing in guns wouldn't stop them.

Considering there's a gun in arms reach, that would obviously make it more tempting.

vs. a car, or a knife, or a baseball bat, etc.

If someone REALLY wanted to kill someone and didnt have a gun, they would still do it any way they could.

I don't like the message this is sending. We're basically declaring the U.S. a warzone, we're condemning our own schools out of fear. Fear gets us nowhere, and fear is not what this country is based on.

Our forefathers, when greeted with fear, hit it head on taking care of much bigger and life threatening issues rather than sporadic school shootings every few years. We can't be subjected to these kinds of solutions, this is over-doing it. I'm pro-gun, but this is absolutely retarded.

For one, there's no real reason to do this. School shootings are, honestly, a rarity. Once you put the gun in the classroom there's no guarentee what will happen, even with a properly educated, trained, and trusted teacher safeguarding it. Who's to say a kid won't manage to break into wherever the weapon is held and then use that to go on a rampage? Who's to say a teacher won't flip his top and light up some kid?

We should be abstaining from violence, and any method of violence being allowed into our classrooms. We should be locking the guns out of the classrooms, just as we do knives and everything else. It's funny and all to see a picture of "Which will stop a shooter?" depicting a sign saying no weapons, and another saying armed teachers, but actual practicality of that is nil.

The fact is simple, we need to be aiming to eliminate the ability for weapons to get into the classroom, not whole-heartedly bring them in. No amount of classroom training on firearms, or safety mechanisms will stop a tragedy. It doesn't take much to break a safe or disarm somebody at all.

Implying every teacher will purchase a safe. If it was mandatory to use the safe, then the school would pay for it, thus wasting more money for a moronic idea.

Schools constantly waste money at the end of a fiscal year. If they don't spend close to the entirety of the budget, they get less financial aid the next year.

Schools have and will continue to throw out perfectly usable paper, buy new textbooks EVERY year (when some may not be needed) and other shady practices to use up the money they get so they can continue to get more money.

Quit being a moron.

But if guns are put into the classrooms, the odds of that happening vastly increase. But the bigger risk would be students obtaining the gun.

thats what a safe is for. The teachers wouldnt be caring around their guns in their pockets. The average highschool student probably doesnt even know how to break a safe. but lets say they do, that what the trigger lock is for so the student can't fire the gun

and youll keep the safe out of the reach of the kids.

Uh no. This is in one state.

I fail to see how one state's action condemns the rest of the country.

and you know what pays for the schools? Tax payers!!! So tax payers will be paying for the students safety!

IDK about you but I am hoping another school shooting will never happen and I think arming teachers is a good thing to try.
