I don't understand how arming oneself is giving in to fear. Hell, if I'm always packing, my fear goes down by a pretty wide margin. I have no opinion on this. It is what it is. It just irks me when people talk about fear and guns in this connotation. When one goes hiking, do they not bring the proper equipment. It's like calling someone a -blam!- because their car has brakes. It never hurts to be prepared.

Of course! Cause obviously public schools HAVE to buy the new version of a Math textbook! I mean, it's not like Math has stayed the same way for a thousand years. Oh what horrible things would come to pass if we don't buy this new $60 math book that teaches the same damn thing that our current math books teach.

Don't even get me started on English.

and you know what pays for the schools? Tax payers!!! So tax payers will be paying for the students safety!

That's the point. Either they raise taxes to accommodate the new policy (which they wont), or teachers have to cut back on the fixed funds they get.

Schools don't get fixed funds. The amount they get every year changes.

thats what a safe is for. The teachers wouldnt be caring around their guns in their pockets. The average highschool student probably doesnt even know how to break a safe. but lets say they do, that what the trigger lock is for so the student can't fire the gun

and youll keep the safe out of the reach of the kids.

There have been news articles about students who have hacked into the schools records and changed test scores. If students were able to do that, i'm sure they could manage to find out the combination to the safes.

that will take a very long time to guess a combination. Only the teachers will know the combo and will be able to get in there. I doubt they will have enough time to break the safe itself or guess the combo between lunch or classes

Actually the funds are fixed yearly and vary by districts. And obviously some districts aren't getting as much money as others, hence why some schools have less materials to work with.

You tried to be clever but failed miserably.

I'm not talking about blindly guessing the combination. The schools would have to keep a list of the combinations to all the safes somewhere. Someone would manage to obtain that list.

Did you know that the idea to boost school security was one proposed by a Democrat senator. Don't remember which one exactly.

Now that the NRA is willing to fund it, the idea is attacked as dangerous, stupid, and something only a conservative would say.

How interesting.

I think that a teacher should be able to bring a handgun to school, provided they have permit, want to have the gun in the class, and have undergone certain tactical training bought with their own money and conducted on their own time.

source?

I'm not wasting my time providing a source for something that's been covered constantly by news outlets over many years and something that should be common knowledge.
So basically, you have no source? And thus no argument?

  • 12.30.2012 1:35 PM PDT

I was using the example of the price of a single textbook genius.

Also do you have any idea how low those classes is on the totem pole in High School? You learn the basics and nothing more. Sure there's a break through in Science and Economics, but not at the level where a High School will teach it cause the students will have no idea what they're talking about.

You only have a half point in history also, history needs more than one year to justify adding anything to textbook. They go by large periods of time smart ass. They're not going to add ten pages to a history textbook every year and make the school pay for them, no one is that dumb.

If anyone doesn't have a clue what they're talking about it's you.

Posted by: Fire of the Rose
I like how you were dumb enough to exclude history, science, economics, etc to support your moronic point. And a classroom set of textbooks can run well over $1000.

I like how you have to use insults to win an arguement.

Also, most old math textbooks are just as easy to understand as the new ones. You should only update the books if they get destroyed, or if some new formula or theorem comes along and changes everything.

Beyond the money issues that come up with such a plan, i have to say i disagree with it, i have a feeling this will not work and only the teachers will suffer.

The thing we have to remember about school shooters is that they do not intend to get out of the shooting alive, they just want to go down with a bang and become infamous. They want to be remembered. While having this in play may reduce the number of deaths in a shooting but it will not stop them.

I also have to worry about what happens if a gunman take a child or teacher to use as a shield to prevent themselves from being shot. The teachers with guns would then have a problem on their hands.Kill the shield and the gunman and save a large amount of lives or do not shoot the gunman and let him take a large amount of lives.Either way the teachers with an gun would be held responsible for those extra deaths.

Then you have no proof that your argument is valid then you cant prove that the schools receive the same or as you say

Actually the funds are fixed yearly and vary by districts

So you're argument is invalid and you look like an idiot. congrats
