The rarity of a mass shooting, let alone one in a school, is so high that the whole reaction to the Sandy Hook shooting is a massive overreaction.
Yes, it was a horrible event. No, all of this is not needed.
I remember reading a statistic recently that all the mass shootings in the US in the past 13 years(before Sandy Hook; the article was written after the theater shooting) have killed a total of 210 people.
That is less than half of the people killed in Chicago EACH year! (they hit 500 on Friday)
Out of those 500 people this year killed in Chicago, 60 were children. Where is the outrage for that?
I also read that the people who do these statistics also count teenagers as children. Some cases counted 19 and 20 year olds. It skews the statistics and blows some stats outta proportion.
