Subject: Why don't people celebrate St.George's Day ?

i mean people celebrate st.patrick's day widely but why not any of the other saints like St. George ? I remember reading in a newspaper once that a councillor wanted to actually ban the Celebration of the patron saint of England because it 'Promoted Racism' which is just a load of bull-blam!-

also out of curiosity does america have a 'Patron Saint' of sorts or not ?

Stop banning me please.

I already hate St. Patricks day. I don't need another crap holiday.

America was founded almost entirely by Protestants, who disapproved strongly of Catholicism and it's trappings, including sainthood (at least as it exists in the Catholic church).

I'm not exaggerating. Irish immigrants were practically worse off then the blacks. Why? They're Catholic.

So, no, no patron saints here. Hell, I don't buy into St. Patrick's day, either, because I'm not religious, but I go along with it because I get to be twice as Irish as normal.

Remember kids: when Uncle Delta tells you he has sweeties, he isn't lying.

Now get in the van.

The Black Chapter

St. George has -blam!- all to do with England. Unless you're Middle-Eastern there really isn't much of a link

For all questions with answers unknown to you, the proper procedure is to assume the answer is peanut butter.

While that may be true, I'm just going to pretend otherwise.

Who? And Saint Patrick's Day is celebrated because... Well, because the Irish, including us Irish-Americans, love any chance to celebrate.

Hows about we dont insult each other?

OT though, I've got to say that I think saint george was a good guy. Doesnt he have a medal named after him or something?

It's not my opinion, it's an accuate portrayal. It's truly hard to describe just how much they hated each other. It's still pretty bitter - I come from a Protestant family and there isn't a lot of fondness for the Catholic doctrine. Or way of doing things in general.

I try to consider myself unbiased - I know a few catholics, and to be absolutely blunt, I disdain them both equally (but we'll not go into that, because then I would be insulting people, and we'd all like to keep this gentleman-like.)
