Seal Team Six isn't sci fi, but it's a great book.

"There's a very fine line between not listening, and not caring. I'd like to think that I walk that line every day."

Ender's Game, a bit?

The Spartan 1 Project

The halo books are good, most star wars novels are good too. I'm sure there are plenty of non-video game books out there too, but I wouldn't know about them.

You could also try books by King or Clancy. I think the original Rainbow Six book is military.

Studies show that men think about sex every 7 seconds. I do my best to eat hotdogs in under 6, just so things don't get weird.

Which kind of highlights the difficulty with the genre. Too military and it tends to lose its sci-fi, too sci-fi and the military themes tend to get lost.

The Ender books did a very good job, so did Starship Troopers (though each were pretty heavy on the metaphor and statement).

"There is no time for peace. No respite. No forgiveness. There is only WAR!"

Cowboy Angels; Alternate 1980's America operates a series of Turning gates, portals if you will to alternate universes within the confines of the multiverse. The book follows a department of the CIA know as Cowboy Angles, men who use the gates to travel between alternate Americas to help influence events in a manner that benefits the one "true" America.
