The series is great, but if you're the guy who cares about RPG choices actually meaning something, don't get it. Sure, the journey is great, but at the end, it feels like all those investments went to waste. The ending and the plotholes weren't bad, but....if you tell you're fanbase that every decision you make can mean life, or death......make it happen.

I know how much work RPG's take to make.....but....don't lie about the features.

What house has a rocket pod, has legs, and has a long narrow barrel that probably shoots something powerful?

Sounds like you're describing the lower half of my body, actually.

The original Mass Effect is excellent. The other two have their moments, especially with the cinematic scenery and stuff and some of the characters, but for the most part neither really holds a candle to the original.

I don't agree with this at all. Each one has major faults in different compartments and each one has a major success. That being said, they are all good games. There is not one that I could prefer over the other in the Mass Effect series, like I can with the Halo series.

I respectfully disagree. I think Mass Effect 2 clobbers both other entries.

How so?

It's only a matter of my personal preference, but I think the emphasis on character development made it a much more invested experience, and the gameplay was a lot less clunky than the first game's.

The first game, IMO, had too many boring moments (planetary explanation got monotonous) along with clunky combat. Third game was too streamlined and had plenty of plot issues.

Characters was definitely ME2's strong point.

Planetary exploration was kind of monotonous but it was more adventurous than scanning orbs. Plus you got to occasionally do cool things like fight Thresher Maws or find Easter Eggs.

The Spartan 1 Project

I've played all three. Good series. I was thinking about starting another character in the first.

Those of you who like the second the best: can you help me understand why? Most cite the characters but I couldn't bond with any because there were so many. When I play it again, what should I pay attention to?

I dunno, I didn't mind scanning.

Also, I'm one of (apparently?) few people who really liked ME2's story.

Why, hello there.

Well, Mass Effect 2 decreased in quality of the story, but went up in character development.

Mass Effect 3... don't play it. It's a waste of time. I spent the $80 to get the N7 edition only to find out the story is atrocious, and the endings... let's not go there.

Oh you played it? Well, I didn't know this thread was for you. I thought it was for people who have not played it. Thanks for your input, though but it is rather just useless.

I can't agree. It is quality but definitely not on the top 5 list of best games for a battle hardened gaming veteran like me.

I honestly don't see how ME2's story was a drop-off in quality from the first. Not just trying to antagonize. I love Mass Effect, but the overarching plot has never exactly been amazing. It's just an excuse to blow things up in a cool sci-fi universe.

I thought that ME2's story was really cool, fleshing out Cerberus, revealing what happened to the protheans, etc.

  • 12.30.2012 7:34 PM PDT

I prefer ME2 and 3 for their combat system. Also the Extended Cut fixed ME3s biggest problem in it's ending. The DLC has also been fun.

You don't get it son. This isn't a mud hole, it's an operating table. And I'm the surgeon.

Ive only played ME 2 and I was impressed. I wish there was a mod though where you can reskin shepard and make him look like master chief.

TBH, I'm kinda peeved that I can't continue the same game after completion. Had a few more side-quests I wanted to do, without having to play through the main story again. Unfortunately, my last conventional save was three hours before I finished. Probably my vault for not saving right before Ilos, but still.

The clanky gameplay put me off.
Maybe I'll buy it again for PC.

I didn't find it that clunky. Though, I played Soldier and had my squad-mates auto-use their abilities, so I didn't indulge in micromanaging much at all.

Your average nice guy on The Flood.... D: ..... WAIT A MINUTE....

Play the first two, but don't buy the third. It butchers the series. It's better to just imagine what happens after the arrival DLC.

The Internet is an empowerment tool that's agnostic; it doesn't care about race, gender, or age.

Never finished the 1st... started on the 2nd then went on to the 3rd. Got into the series really late, but it was worth it.

Yeah Mass Effect is great. You'll love Mass Effect 2, which is probably the best in the series.

Finished the first, it was alright. Lost interest in the 2nd one. I didn't like gameplay of it.

The only problem I see with ME for new people is that all the games are very different. Opinions are very split. It's likely that you will dislike 1 or 2 games in that trilogy...

I for one like the first, love the second and don't really like the third.

... go buy it. Now. I just finished the first one for the first time and damn, it's one of the best games I've played in a while. Granted, it has its issues, but nevertheless it is still a fantastic title. Can't wait to start the second one, gonna do a few more side-quests in the first beforehand though.

The first one was honestly the best in most respects. The second one wrapped up nicely and the third one had impressive animation, but the first was best.

Very true. Although I know a guy who somehow magically likes all of them AND ME3 is his favorite.

Soon to be breaking news:

US Coast Guard prepares for massive rescue mission after Iranian fleet sinks off shore. Reports say a small thunderstorm caused most of the ships to simply...fall apart.

I hated the second one.
