What house has a rocket pod, has legs, and has a long narrow barrel that probably shoots something powerful?

Sounds like you're describing the lower half of my body, actually.

The only problem I see with ME for new people is that all the games are very different. Opinions are very split. It's likely that you will dislike 1 or 2 games in that trilogy...

Very true. Although I know a guy who somehow magically likes all of them AND ME3 is his favorite.

Magically? There is no magic in opinions.

That being said, I love them all and have no favorites. You can love a game even if it had a terrible ending. There could be something about it that the other games do not have.

You either like ME1, or 2 and 3. The weapons change everything
It's not the weapons. It's the whole aim of the series:
- ME1 is that kind of traditional, pure RPG a lot of old-school players appreciate.
- ME2 made Mass Effect like a blockbuster movie. It removed the RPG-gameplay, but stayed true to the formula of the role-play.
- ME3 tried to mix it then (and imo failed miserably). They kinda tried to add the RPG-gameplay again, but also butchered the actual role-play.

3 games appealing to completely different people.

Yeah, ME2 played more like an action movie where as ME1 was a straight up RPG

Characters was definitely ME2's strong point.

Planetary exploration was kind of monotonous but it was more adventurous than scanning orbs. Plus you got to occasionally do cool things like fight Thresher Maws or find Easter Eggs.

Also, I'm one of (apparently?) few people who really liked ME2's story.

One of the few I know. ME2's story didn't do anything to expand the plot that an expansion for ME1 couldn't have done (seeing as the main conflict was introduced and resolved in ME2). None of the original characters are party members in ME 3 and only appear as cameos in the sequel, etc.

Really, ME2 didn't need to exist. Coulda just as easily been 2 games, with a big expansion in ME1 to introduce Cerberus.

Actually, there is no doubt they added RPG gameplay back and I liked that they did. How could you hate that? It involved more thinking to your playstyle than ME2.

I liked that ME3 had RPG-gameplay again: skill-trees, pick-ups, attachments, and whatnot. I never even missed the exploration.

But the actual role-play (playing your very own Shepard) was pretty much denied. With all that automatic responses, it was like you were watching BioShepard talking instead of your own. You could mostly not even decide what's your opinion, but how you express the pre-defined one. I hated that he was always saying things I didn't want him to. My own character was taken away from me.

I see what you are saying. Yes, that was the problem I had with it.

I felt though exploration was better in Mass Effect 3. There wasn't much in Mass Effect,(No big empty worlds and redundant environments is not exploration), and Mass Effect 2 was pretty cool especially the one where you land in the world where you face a horde of robots.

You can say that but I find them, hard to hate which makes the games more enjoyable and replayable to me.

I liked all three.

Two not so much because of the environment and settings; nothing to do with gameplay or controls or anything. I just liked the feel of ME2 slightly less than ME1/3.

Thanks for reading my signature!

Mass Effect 3 fell down for its lack of variance in my opinion. The Citadel was the only 'safe' place, previous games had places like Tuchunka, Illium, Noveria, Feros etc. Places where you could walk around and talk. ME3 was just fight, return to Citadel/Normandy, fight, repeat.

There was also no side missions, those stupid scan things don't count. Plus the writing was overdramatic in places.

I got the Trilogy pack for Christmas, so I'll be playing all three. Is 3 really so bad, or is it just the ending? (no spoilers please)

The ending will leave you like "WTF IS THIS?"

OT: I liked Mass Effect 2 the most out of all of them.

  • 12.30.2012 9:02 PM PDT

I played ME1 and all I remember is that you can convince the final boss to off himself. That was pretty cool. The next two games didn't even look remotely interesting. On a related note, the ME games have some of the UGLIEST alien/creature designs I have ever seen.

Take me into your heart! Accept me as your savior! Nail me to the -blam!- cross, and let me be reborn!

I had a hell of a time playing through the Mass Effect Trilogy. One of my favorite moments on Xbox, being able to go through 3 games with different choices, characters, quests, weapons, etc. Different romance options, dialogue choices, everything. Truly one of my favorite Xbox games.

I couldn't give a rats ass what people say about any of them. If the first is the "only ME RPG", the second "no RPG" and the thirds "bad ending". I had a fun time and many experiences with friends and by myself playing each game. OP, I highly suggest the ME trilogy.

Trilogy pack should come with the patched ending and crucial story content Bioware removed from the game and sold for $10 (or $15 for Leviathan) a piece. I've heard of people left not so burned when you're allowed to play the full game.

The rest of us were badly screwed. You have to understand Bioware is an extremely deceptive developer, possibly the worst in the industry, whose PR people have no qualms about lying.

I consider you to be a lucky bastard since you get a patched game and you're not getting -blam!- at every corner. Seriously you'll probably wonder what all the hate was about.

Depends on what you value about the trilogy, really.

IMO the whole game is just meh. Ending is (still) horrible, but it's definitely not the only issue.

... go buy it. Now. I just finished the first one for the first time and damn, it's one of the best games I've played in a while. Granted, it has its issues, but nevertheless it is still a fantastic title. Can't wait to start the second one, gonna do a few more side-quests in the first beforehand though.
I just got the trilogy. Thing is I just bought CS:GO and this game has sucked me in. I can't stop playing it.

The first one was not almost or close to perfect. Not even, this is coming from someone who played it more than 15 playthroughs. The game had huge glaring problems.

One thing that does suck it that there is no DLC other than the Cerberus thing for ME2.

I'm hoping for my sake that didn't just invalidate your point.

All the ME2 DLC is there I believe. Even if it's not I'm talking strictly ME3.

What are these first person words you speak of?

Everything is fine in the first two, to teh puma. The third game has loads of issues though. A good 75% of it is nothing but fetch quests, and he doesn't feel we even need to talking about the last 10 minutes...

HOWEVER, the multiplayer can be extremely fun (especially with friends,) though can get repetitive if you play it too much. It plays best in short doses.
