By the time energy shielding is developed we wont be using people to fight.
We will always be using people to fight. Even if it is using robots to attack other countries civilians.

It was dumping a massive amount of energy into magnets on the sides of the vehicle, slowing down any metal projectile that hit it.

That magnet one sounds feasible to me but not in todays world. We don't have anything that could power it on the move outside a nuclear reactor that would have to be the size that the spartan armor uses.

Right now the closest thing to stopping bullets is that humvee used in, "The Incredible Hulk". They use ultrasound waves to slow down anything in front of them. They do exist. Feasible way to stop bullets right now.
