Well, here we are. I guess that it was destined to come to this.

The State of Kansas wants the semen donor to pay child support.

He donated to a non-het female couple so they could have a child. They've since broken up, and are applying for financial aid, and so since the state doesn't recognize their previous status as a couple, it can't tell the the former partner to "pay up", the state is asking the donor to pay child support.

Really weird if you ask me. If someone donates, I would imagine there are all sorts of contracts where the donor releases all parental rights and the recipients release the donor from any responsibility.

However, this donation was arranged on craigslist, so who knows what contract (if any) was signed. If it was a "turkey baster" donation, then he should have asked for something in writing.

Either way, this is really messed up.

This is a completely ridiculous situation, and why kansas should start recognizing non-hetero couples as legitimate.

Most of what I say is sarcasm, the rest is of the highest intellect.

If this tells us anything, it's that Craigslist is nothing but bad news.

As soon as you click those Ruby heels though, you'll be right back.

Exactly. If they were to be legally married [and divorced], then all of the same legal consequences would apply. Instead, some random guy will be footing the bill.

Ridiculous.

"Hello. My name is Stephen Hawking. Physicist, cosmologist, and something of a dreamer. Although I cannot move, and I have to speak through a computer, in my mind, I am free. Free to explore the universe, and ask the big questions."

I would think that, even if the actual donation was arranged via Craigslist, there is some sort of legislation, or legal precedent, that would prevent the donor from claiming rights to the child, and conversely, absolving them from the woman who birthed the child claiming some sort of child support.
In my personal opinion, I think it's ridiculous that the state won't recognize the two women as a couple, considering that they raised a child together..

STOP ASSAULT 2012

Who is Assault? Assault is a mod in the Bungie.net brony group. And what started out with good intentions, viciously spiraled down into a power hungry tyrant locking thread after thread after thread to quell all opposition to his tyrannical rule. Did I mention he is a tyrant?

To donate to the STOP ASSAULT 2012 movement, message me with your credit card info, full name, social security, full adress, and mothers maiden name.

I remember the first time I sold my semen on Craigslist.

  • 12.31.2012 9:22 AM PDT

Are they allowed to do this? He probably donated to other places too so are all the mothers gonna sue him for child support?

To be fair... These women aren't making a very good case for same-sex couples.

Uh, Kansas? What are you doing? Stop. Why is this even happening?

I'm either a fool or an inteligent man, depending on how sleepy or angry I am.

I originaly made an account on 07.27.2007 but I wanted to link my GT and made this account. Don't forget your passwords!

What? I don't think he should be required to pay at all.

Though I'm more surprised that it was done through craigslist.

Studies show that men think about sex every 7 seconds. I do my best to eat hotdogs in under 6, just so things don't get weird.

Please allow me to introduce Myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man's soul and faith

Well...

This will be an interesting case. I'll be curious to see how it works out.

I'll bet that the state drops it. Since his name is on the Birth Certificate, most states would go after him as a dead beat daddy. But, since there was an arrangement between the couples, I would bet that this is low level functionaries refusing to think from themselves. It will get kicked up to someone with an actual nameplate on their door and it will be dropped.

  • 12.31.2012 9:23 AM PDT

This is just wrong. I would sue the state, and then sue the women.

I disagree. Hetero couples do all kinds of ridiculous things in relationships, including trying to sue random people for things. Same-sex couples aren't immune to stupidity.

But going about it in the most wrong way possible. Just another reason for the legitimization of men's rights groups.

Why not? The couple has broken up, with the mother applying for financial aid to help raise a child. Because kansas does not recognise same sex relationships as legitimate, they've gone to the donor.

This has nothing to do with the couple, more so the state itself.

I am a monument to all your sins

That's not right. He just donated sperm, if somebody donates to a sperm bank they don't have any responsibility for the child, so why should he?
