First off, starving yourself has no connection to losing weight in the short run. And I can get the advantages of football through strength training. It's not a biased article, it just clearly shows the opinion of the author with empirical evidence showing why football is bad. Also, actually losing weight in three days is impossible. I suspect your analogy is a bluff at best. I bet he had little water weight and other factors that fluctuate weight loss.

You're right, I dont know first hand on how exactly he lost the weight. All he said was that he couldnt eat until right before the fight. And since I wasn't a wrestler I couldnt tell you how exactly it happened.

Many of the one's who do enter in it at high school level aren't at their physical level that they should be, hence the cut of fat, and odds are, bulking back for muscle.

Either way, your comment was dripping of a "lolamericans are fat" jab. I'd defer to BV though. I just enjoy watching athletics; he's an athlete so he knows way more than I do on the subject.

Well, it is a common fact that the obesity rate in America is high (like 30% iirc) but that has no bearing to the op. Wrestlers have a wide range of weight, so they'll have to do a cut, bulk, or a mix of both depending. It's not a weight problem, just a preparation.

Usually the way that fighters and wrestlers drop weight for weigh in is to dehydrate themselves. After weigh in they can bulk back up all they want as far as I know.

Sums up my opinion of football. Everyone should give this a read.

That was a joke article, right?

1. powerlifting
2. too much sitting, not enough cardio
3. Barry Bonds? What about obvious steroid problem - football. The proverbial 800lb gorilla
4. Healthier sports for teens: soccer, basketball, and even skateboarding

1. Powerlifting is bad for you? lolwut
2. Too much sitting...? What the hell?
3. Steroid use is severely punished and athletes are drug tested
4. Doesn't even deserve a response

I`ve actually been reading an ethnography about high school football in a south texas school. Very interesting stuff. The author believes that it is encouraged because of a military/societal belief in manliness, and how adults view their childhoods, wanting their kids to do what they did because off selective memory.

American football is the only timed sport that I know of where the players stand around more than playing.

Lol no, it is either you are sprinting down field about 25 meters trying to catch the ball surrounded by people who want to hit you, or you are trying to keep someone who is 250-300 lbs from getting past you and hitting someone. Play clock between plays is only 40 seconds and most teams snap the ball at around 30. Don't make it seem like they don't do anything.

Everything you know is wrong.

Your football scenario works when there's only one minute of time left; not three.
It can very well happen.

3:00 is 180 seconds.

A couple running plays, one first down, and a few kneels and the game is over.
35x2 = 70
35x3 = 105
175 seconds

That is not an exact number due to circumstances during a game. I'd give or take a little.

1: It's his style of writing. Scooby doesn't believe in powerlifting for younger people, and this is in the context of the op: high school football.

2: I believe he means compared to other high school sports such as the ones he mentions in your fourth point.

3:Only if they get caught. Athletes can cycle steroids and not get caught.

4:Obvious bias, yes, but I enjoy this article for the evidence of injury rate, which you ignored and went to attack the article intself as opposed to the stats he brought up.

Sometimes I am tempted to quit gaming. I can no longer play without seeing ponyphags, horrendously bad teammates and mexicans.

Gaming community, I want you to know that you suck.

As long as a team wasn't stupid, they should have 2-3 timeouts left so take 2 of those 35 seconds off the clock. Also, a couple of running plays for a first down and you say it only takes 2? In a situation where the defense knows they want to run they are going to play the run D all the way and make it tough for them to even get back to the line of scrimmage, let a lone get 5 yards back to back. Maybe they could run a play action, but it could get picked off or make the clock stop if its incomplete. They could be stopped and the offense could get the ball back and score.

  • 12.31.2012 12:37 PM PDT

I play high-school football, and I don't see my self any where close to tough.

1. Nothing wrong with lifting.
2. Of course soccer and skateboarding are going to be safer. They arent contact sports. Next you're gonna tell me that golf is safer than football. You dont say.
3. In highschool its easy to get away with steroid use if you suck. My team however was always above average and we got tested once every 2 weeks.

Butt ugly ape” remarked Sergeant Johnson always making fun out of the situation even though he had been hit by a spiker round in the arm. He mustered up the strength to continue and the team moved on. The Arbiter informed him that the next room held The Prophet of Truth and this was the final room before extraction. Jun proposed that he takes a shot from a distance the prophet and they all head back to the ship bay for extraction. The team agreed on this and breached the last door…

Your just butthurt. MAJORLY.

If your mad because someone who is involved with football in your life is getting more perks than you, well stop being jealous.

If your getting bullied, ESPECIALLY in HS, its okay because you only have four years max there.

If your just generally complaining, somethings wrong with you.

2 minute warning stops the clock. A team can't simply end a game by taking a knee with 3 minutes left. The other team would have to be out of time outs and the offense would have to get at least 1 first down without going out of bounds or throwing an incomplete pass.

Hell, a team yesterday scored 28 points in 5 minutes without taking a single offensive snap.

Ah, see, I thought you framed your scenario with just one set of downs considering you said they could just end the game with three minutes left. As you mentioned, they would have to get a first down. That set of downs could eat enough clock to get close to a minute but it's not like the defense is going to just give the offense a first down.

I don't know if it's just my high school, but as a football player, the only things bad about it are relatively heavy lifting at a young age, workouts during summer, and one of our classes being switched for a weightlifting class each semester which eliminates some education. I'd quit, but my dad won't let me.

Unless they're the Arizona Cardinals playing in Seattle lol. They couldn't stop Lynch if they wanted to.

That was by the Titans, baby. Returned two interceptions for scores and returned two punts for scores.
