Why do people have this attitude? I mean, I get it - in real life, lots of people around you like sports, and if you don't like them, it can get frustrating to hear people talk about them all the time as though it's something you should know and care about. But just because that's the case, doesn't mean you then have to come online and act like people who do enjoy sports are somehow inferior to you.

I mean, what's the deal? Why tear others and their interests down to make you feel better about yours? Some people like sports, and some people like video games or comics or fantasy books or obscure music or whatever, and some people like a combination of those. Not liking something doesn't make you cool or funny or desirable by itself - it's your personality that decides that.

I just don't get this "lol sports who would care about those lolol amirite guise????????" attitude. Live and let live, man. Plenty of people don't share your interests but let you have them anyway. Why not extend others the same courtesy?

P.S. COLTS ARE PLAYOFF-BOUND, YEAHHHHHHH BABY

I hate sports, but I've never came on the internet to bash them.

I know, right?
Jay acts like she's better than everyone else simply because she's a chick.
I hope she chokes to death.

Awww. A Lions fan? That's unfortunate.

Why would somebody report the OP for this?
Because of who the OP is, of course.

  • 12.31.2012 2:41 PM PDT

Sports aren't my thing, but if others like it that's fine.

Obviously she can't or else she wouldn't have made this thread. It is almost like she is new to the Internet and doesn't realize people insult everything.

Nah.

Anyway, post has been unreported by some mod who evidently thought it was not ban-worthy, so that's that.

I'm 23, I have a house, dog, girlfriend, job and I have no interest in any fanboyism so if you're thinking about sending me a childish PM, don't be surprised when I don't call back.

I like watching sports but I don't actively keep up with them, my favourites are football and boxing.

Am I broken? Since OP knows so much I must be.

I had a very similar thing, only I threw a 14 story building out of a pool and hit a kid on a paper aeroplane.

The Flood is just this awesome :D

I don't know how watching grown men throw/kick a ball around into a net/open field is fun to watch.

You don't enjoy any other kind of contest?

Sports, whether or not you enjoy them, do take skill and expertise to master. Some people enjoy watching people who are leaders in their field, some people enjoy the competitive aspect of it, some people find the game mechanics interesting, and some people just think barracking for their team is fun. (Some people are a combination of these!) I found that once I understood the rules of NFL, the game became a lot more interesting because I knew what was at stake on each play and what individual plays were meant to accomplish. You don't have to like sports, but don't act as though they're some kind of mindless brute force activity when they are very obviously not.

I have this feeling that you took his simplified version of the activity as hate when it clearly wasn't. Also you are pretty much saying everyone should like sports and if they don't then they don't understand the rules to the sport which isn't true.

Why don't people understand love
:CCCCCCCCCCC

People are free to enjoy whatever they want. Though I still don't understand why anyone enjoys [watching] sports.

That's the way he sees it though, you can't change that so you should respect it the same way he respects your love of the game.

Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lube.

I enjoy playing sports, and watching sports as well.

I agree. At the same time, I don't have a problem with those who don't. To each's own, basically.

No, I'm saying that not everyone has to enjoy sports, but there are plenty of valid reasons why people do, and the mischaracterisation of sports as mindless is unfair.

BREAKING NEWS: No one actually think it's cool to not like sports

  • 12.31.2012 2:52 PM PDT

"I am an enforcer man! Don't nothin' go down in my house! This 100% heart baby! Sure, I check a few fools. I give em the pain! But sometimes its about intimidation, though. It's mind games."
-Terry Tate, Office Linebacker

Cool rant, my friend.

...And since when does disliking sports make you cool?

I like football with friends sometimes but I'm a big fan of badminton, running, cycling and swimming.

  • 12.31.2012 2:52 PM PDT

I do enjoy the World Cup over anything else in sports.

  • 12.31.2012 2:52 PM PDT

Sports are fine. Sports fans who get angry when a team loses and are rude to everybody for the next few hours are the problem.

He didn't use the term mindless at all. He just says he can't see how watching people throw a ball around is fun. That is just a simplification which can be done to just about anything. It necessarily isn't in a negative connotation. If everyone doesn't have to enjoy sports why can't they talk about their dislike of them?

There is an obvious difference between talking about how you dislike sports and acting as though your dislike of sports gives you some kind of moral high ground.

This.

Do we browse a different forum or something? From the sound of it, I like my version better.
