Jay acts like she's better than everyone else simply because she's a chick.
I hope she chokes to death.

Sapphire != the norm among private groups and therefore if you don't like the Sapphire community, you can't participate in this outlier in PG activity, making your counterpoint to Mr. Weird, Ph.D. null and void.
No offense meant, but that seems more like a problem with people who don't like the community than with the community itself.

Oh don't get me wrong I've never even set foot in Sapphire, but even if it is that person's problem, given the size of Sapphire, it kind of defeats the purpose of a PG if it's that popular. So your point is still irrelevant.

Don't do anything you wouldn't want to have to explain to paramedics. Trust me, I'm a pilot.

Both offer something unique. Private groups can provide a close-knit community where everyone gets to know each other, but the main forums allow exposure, good or bad, to everyone on the site, and gives one the sense of a much larger community. Personally, I post in both private groups and on the main forums, as I like what each offers.

I wish ignorance was a plague.

I can't be bothered to find groups.

My point was that private groups can restrict membership, but only to the extent of keeping out trolls and alts if they choose, so that they offer the benefits of open forums without the drawbacks. How is my point irrelevant?

The mains are there mostly so you can figure out who should and shouldn't be in your private groups.

I go to groups when I'm bored. The mains are ten times better. More people more different opinions. I think it's silly how serious some people take their groups.

The mains can ban alts and trolls too? But your retort to Dr Weird when he said PGs weren't all that active was that Sapphire was probably the 2nd most active forum on the site. This either invalidates it as an example of a good PG because it's basically just the mains or is irrelevant because it's clearly an outlier and not a good example of the pace of a PG.

So it's too good a private group to be a good example of private groups? :P

Popularity does not directly equate to quality, nice try though.

The mains are for everyone, so you get a larger range of opinions I suppose. Groups are all about having similar interests and fitting in.

GOAT

I have no reason to post in the community forum.

I'll post in the Flood out of boredom, but private groups are so much better. I'm only active in two, but I joined each of them less than 2 months.

If you're not playing, I can't tell you what you're obviously doing without being banned.

I'm trying to become an '04, but it's not working too well."

Without the main forums, there would be no private groups.

How would you meet people from private groups if there were no mains?

Also, how would people spam "Sapphire is the best private group on this website lolz" if there were no mains?

I like the mains for random discussion with randoms.
Trolls and Alts are worthless and easy to ignore.
Thankfully there isn't some ridiculous sears list for the mains, either. We'd lose a lot of great members just because of some ridiculous disagreement or butthurt-ness.

The mains are in my opinion the most important forums as they are directly related to the site

Agreed. I come to the mains primarily to keep up with Bungie, and what Bungie related stuff is happening.

Private groups are purely to kill time.

  • 01.01.2013 7:11 AM PDT

I've got to say, even though I stick to private groups more, it's nice from time to time to peep into the mains and see what's what.

@spawn031

"So much of what we do is ephemeral and quickly forgotten, even by ourselves, so it's gratifying to have something you have done linger in people's memories." John Williams

Over my first 4 years here, you usually found me posting in the main forums. Over my last 4 years here, I've been getting more involved with private groups. Each has their own niche I enjoy.

I use private group to have enclosed discussions with members I have grown up with over the years. Members that I have known longer and share online experiences with like Xbox Live. In private groups, there is less rule breaking because everyone knows each other better.

I enjoy public forums quite a bit as well. Not just bungie.net either. NeoGAF, Starcraft and Public Fan sites on other games. There is more room for growth and opportunity. You never know who will be responding to you, reading your posts, or referencing to you later. You always are adapting to other members on any public forum.

I wouldn't say that one is necessarily better than the other. I enjoy both quite well.

Please stop complaining about the 'death of a loved one' it's my job. They probably deserved it anyways. Here's a warning, if you keep making pentagrams out of the neighbors livestock I will personally come to your house and kill everyone you love. Now leave me alone, I got to get back to work.

Oh, we'd find a way. We always do, don't we? :)

I'm curious as to why anyone but a bad member would think this was a bad thing. Leave aside the question of how you'd determine who the bad members were - why would it be a bad thing to get rid of them?
