Wasn't there one Senator from a system that wanted to call Palpatine out on not giving up his Emergency Powers when he tried to form the Empire? Everyone would have realized this whas a ruse so Palpatine could keep his reign and they would all make a Vote of No Confidence on him. Better yet, why didn't Padme do it? She was right there!

Take me into your heart! Accept me as your savior! Nail me to the -blam!- cross, and let me be reborn!

I think the reason why nobody was looking too much into that was because of the war with the Trade Federation. They kept giving him more power so he could supposedly "end the war" faster, so everyone kept throwing him more power. He was like Hitler in that regard.

But the war was practically over by then. Or did none of the Senators know about the death of General Greivous?

When Grievous died, the Jedi Council started to suspect something about Palpatine. I'm sure because they were Jedi, they were able to sense Palpatines motives before anyone else. I guess you could say Palpatines transformation/rise of Vader and death of Windu happened in a short enough time period that Palpatine was able to address the Senate afterwards and transform the Republic without any Senator knowing what's up.

Fire for Effect. Fire and Forget.

Ever notice the only reason the Jedi dress the way they do in the new trilogy is because the only jedi we see in the original trilogy lived in a desert, and so he wore robes that fit the area, and such?

That just raises more questions. If they didn't know the war was pretty much over, wouldn't one of them had asked Palpatine how he planned to make an Empire when they were in the middle of a war, and then proceed to ask where the war was at in it's time span? Also, wouldn't one of them have asked what the difference in Government would be like? I'm sure no one would agree when he decides to abolish the Senate.

"There's a very fine line between not listening, and not caring. I'd like to think that I walk that line every day."

I can't remember all that well, but I think there was almost no time between when the Clone War ended and the Republic fell. A matter of a couple days, if not hours. And Palpatine had control over everything - he was Chancellor, and Supreme Commander of the GAR. And commander of the Separatists, as well, I suppose.

Yeah. No Senator asking how the war is going is pretty silly. And if no one did agree with him abolishing the Senate, it doesn't matter. He was pretty much the leader of the Galaxy at the point. And I recall Palpatine not abolishing the Senate until Episode 4.

I know he didn't do it until Episode IV, but Governor Tarkin explained that it took a long time to do. If Palpatine even remotely tried to manipulate the Senate until it was gone, people would have known and there would be outrage in even the most loyal of Imperial Systems. The Empire would collapse on itself. There was no way he could get rid of the Senate without their being someone from within calling him out on it.
