Yes, because I'm not a pessimist idiot.

Nope, because I don't believe in fairy tales, only reality. It's more optimistic to me instead of false hope.

It's frightening to imagine no life afterwards, just emptiness or nonexistance.

Not really, I fear the processes leading up to my death significantly more than I do the actual essence of my mind following it, because when I die, well, I'm not going to exist, so I won't care. It's not that bad, actually, kind of becoming "One with the cosmos" and making way for the next generation of organisms.

Possibly, I believe in a deistic God, so there is no way I would know, as A Deistic god is a god that is removed from the world.

So far 47% of people here are idiots. When you die, you die. If life went on for eternity, it would make life meaningless. Might as well kill yourself now since you'll still somehow be alive afterwards.

The majority of that 47% is most likely agnostic. You are the Idiot think that you know something, that none of us can know.

While I completely agree that his delivery of the statement was rude and forceful, I don't think that it is entirely out of the reaches of humanity to understand the state of life following its death. It's actually really simple deductive reasoning that has been swept up in the persistent desire to live after dying.

Life after death is not possible, so no.

As my physics teacher has told me, nothing is impossible or wrong in science, as science is just a collection of theroies. you need as much proof that there is no afterlife, as you need proof of an afterlife. that is why I am an agnostic/deist.

Yeah, you can know. It's logic. Use it. Believe what you will, but please, I ask you to think just a bit harder.

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Nope

When my brain shuts down, I will be dead.
However I will be buried in the ground so that other living things (trees, bugs, etc) eventually can use the atoms which were once in my body. So even though I'll be dead, the atoms of my body will live on in other things. And eventually our planet will crash into the Sun which will explode (or in some cases implode) and spread out all it's matter which will eventually create new stars and solar systems.

So I shall live forever!*

*Unless the matter of my body get's sucked into a black hole because then I have no idea what the -blam!- will happen to it

Studies show that men think about sex every 7 seconds. I do my best to eat hotdogs in under 6, just so things don't get weird.

Please allow me to introduce Myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man's soul and faith

I don't disbelieve in it. I may be an atheist, but that doesn't rule out that something moves on or survives after death. The sad truth of the matter is that science hasn't nearly explained everything. We don't know what consciousness is, let alone what causes it. So, there may be a lot more to the story than our tenure on Earth. Then again, the light switch could just flip off and that's it.

I'm fine with either.

I'm 23, I have a house, dog, girlfriend, job and I have no interest in any fanboyism so if you're thinking about sending me a childish PM, don't be surprised when I don't call back.

I don't believe in magic.

It kinda did, people got mad, then they went to sleep. Let's just hope they don't come back.

''Hell is other people.''

I think it's funny how people believe that after death, you're just dead and you get nothing. That means you, those innocent little kids, the serial killer, your mom, your girlfriend, and everyone else basically get the exact same judgement regardless of what you've done, be it good or evil.

The sad truth of the matter is that science hasn't nearly explained everything.

technically science has explained nothing, as it is a collection of theroies rather than definitive proof. There are therioes that are our best guess, like darwins theroy of evolution, but it is still a theroy. something can be disproven by science, but nothing can be proven.

To be honest I'm not sure why I felt the need to say this.

I like you.

And a question for those who believe in life after death:
Do you believe that you once (or more than once) lived before you were alive?

Some people find it difficult to imagine being dead forever* after you die.
Think of it as this:
You were dead all the way from the big bang until you were alive.

*or till the end of time/universe/space-time/or other thing(s) which the universe needs to exist.

I hate this thread, It's making me want to argue and I can't help it.

My response, is You can't know something until you've done it, and nobody has ever (truely) died for a long enouther period to know. therefore, how can we know what happens after death?
