Ignore my gamertag. It's actually Dragonzzilla.

This idea has been going on in my head and I would like to know what this is in fiction and where I can find it. All the beings are united, can understand each other and each one is completely sentient in technical terms except for the parts of the brain that would get in the way of work. They're creative in their fields but they just don't think about other things... it's not your standard hive mind but I'm not sure what it is really.

Any help, fellow fiction fans?

"There's a very fine line between not listening, and not caring. I'd like to think that I walk that line every day."

Wait . . . so . . . how is it differentiated from a hive mind?

First thing that comes to mind is the Formics.

Collective consciousness? Perfect socialism? The tyranids?

They're just as creative as a human in their fields of expertise.

Just sounds like a hive mind with more intelligent components.

Whoo Penumbra player! *high fives*

Perhaps not hive mind, but collective mind.

Collective consciousness?

Reminds me of the Formics from Ender's Game. There were drones that were essentially husks controlled by sapient (the word you mean instead of sentient) organisms connected telepathically and influenced by a queen.

$_$ Give me your shoes, RAGGLE FRAGGLE

I have to go with everyone else in saying that it resembles a hive mind. I, on the other hand, are reminded of the borg from star trek. THe borg are controlled by a queen, they are all connected telepathically, and they all can do one thing, adapt. If you shoot shoot guns at them they will adapt to where they guns won't harm them in a matter minutes. If you put unknown technology in front of them, they can find its secrets in a matter of hours. However, if the person who was assimilated into a borg has a strong enough will, they can break free of the collective.
