Firstly, check your grammar before posting. Also, I wouldn't really say we're arguing, and if we are, I'm not sure what about. You just said something stupid imo in an online forum and I decided to call you out on it because I'm bored I guess or something.
Oops, I wrote than instead of as. Embarrassing, truly. I'm blushing. You've yet to explain why anything I've said was stupid. Seems like you're covering your ass after making a dumb offhand comment.

Posted by: Technoxious
Secondly, colby's anecdote was not at all about the cycle of poverty, as it did not occur after 3 generations. And your story also was not relevant to the aforementioned phenomenon.
One can reference a cycle without the technical definition, because I would venture to say a great deal of people in poverty don't fit that description, yet still are trapped in it. Seems like a cycle. So, no, I didn't reference the technical definition, but it's still about poverty perpetuating itself. Almost... as if in a cycle.

Posted by: Technoxious
Thirdly, I hopefully don't have to explain why you're wrong here as you already stated what you were trying to point out with that post.
Again, how can you claim I'm being irrelevant when I'm replying to one person's post in a thread where the topic is, by your own admission, unclearly defined.

Again, it just seems like you're covering your ass after calling me stupid.

Wasn't meant to be embarrassing, just some friendly advice. And I have explained why it was dumb...I will do so again I guess.

Seems like a cycle. So, no, I didn't reference the technical definition, but it's still about poverty perpetuating itself. Almost... as if in a cycle.

The cycle of poverty is the phenomenon that the poor tend to stay poor generation after generation. Thus it doesn't apply at all to a single generation...which is why both your anecdotes aren't relevant. Do you get it yet? Pretty god damn simple stuff, no?

Again, how can you claim I'm being irrelevant when I'm replying to one person's post in a thread where the topic is, by your own admission, unclearly defined.

Well yeah, we all are being off topic. But that wasn't my point. Dummy.

Games I like:,
Half-Minute Hero
MBU
Portal
Halo 3 is the best Halo ever
Maps I like: Turf, Avalanche, Pylon, Sandbox, Breakpoint and many more.

I see your points, and on the most part I agree. You are correct in your post that Women, People of non-caucasian descent, ecomincally unwell are the ones who vie for equality the most. What strikes me is the econimcal unwell's want for equality. IF this were to occur, moneytary system would be turned upside down, resources would be used by everyone depleting everything faster, and would screw the world.

Money is nescessary.

Here's something that was brought to my attention once: in the classroom no one gets left behind, and if this is so, can anyone get ahead? Do the gifted suffer because their peers can't keep up? I don't believe in equality, because it's a lie; it doesn't exist in the physical world, only in the abstract. Equal opportunity should, and can exist, but not equality of person, because it can't.

On a bit of a tangent, I don't believe in a multicultural society either, for such a society has no solid truths, or foundations; it's unstable and clumsy. Each faction is tolerant of others, but neither will heed to an alien rule; progress is slowed, if not halted completely.

Equality is false. Rich people will always be better than poor people and I'm poor so I'm not biased.

We are all going to get banned aren't we?

Even though i am sure the op is a try hard troll; I do see the point with "Equal isn't really Equal because we aren't all nor treat everybody equally".

Which is why i think treating somebody with general respect is far better to say and do then try treating them "equally".

Beautiful. Truly. I agree entirely.

And to those discussing poverty, the Military has its arms widely open and will welcome you lovingly.
African nations have national armies as well, do they not?

Respect skill, Not rank.

http://fcwars.net/

indeed op, that is certainly true... although i support some types of equality, certainly not others. lately i've rethought a lot of my positions on things. inequality is right, not equality, even though i'd publicly support equality since it benefits my lower standing in life.

i fully support equality for things like marriage, equality of the sexes, and so on, but not for things like wealth.

Basia Basiliscum Meum

concidering those "oligarchs" are no longer fierce barbarians, but foppish poncy weak upper castes who would only rule through virtue of blood, and the lower classes are the stronger (all that manual labor) then they should be on top.

not what you propose

  • 01.01.2013 8:45 AM PDT

OP is discussing this in a wrong way. Equality should allow the access of a merit based society to be put in place. If it is used to gain advantage over a certain demographic (eg. Affirmative Action), then it is a minority trying to gain an advantage over those who have molded a place in society.

It sadly is that way, indeed. If only there were a society in which Tier 1 Special Operations personnel were the highest tier of the castes...

When someone gains equality, they rise to the level of the rest of society. Thus, equality is not mutual inferiority, but mutual superiority.

For superiority occupies one throne and shares it with no one.
Inferiority, however, will gladly coexist with itself.
Aside from this, I see what you mean.

I can't say I know of an equality movement that takes away rights instead of gives though.

Don't look at it in a legal sense. It's a social perception, this equality business.
For example, women were considered inferior. After much bickering, now men have adopted some of the characteristics of females.

Okay, so when black people are made equal, are the white people brought down to their level to endure that, or are the black people brought up? I would give another example but im too lazy. IMO, equality is good.

What we will be or what is the future is still left in the unknown. We don't know what will happen, and if you are too drowned in the pessimism for a brighter future I don't want you to be a part of forming it. Just a saying.

Though there can never be absolute equality, some will always have to have the lesser jobs or positions. But the striving for better equality can lead to a close enough striving for human prosperity and equality. I'm not saying that everyone should have equally hard of a job and people should make more money then the other or anything like that. Only the statement that we should treat our fellow human being like fellow human beings and give the opportunity they deserve. That is to give people a ground to walk on so they don't go as low as criminality or other things that gives it's image on society in the long run.

There is always stupidity and there is always intelligence, one usually don't co-exist with the other. Though we never abandon the stupidity because we can learn to erasing parts of the stupidity thus setting the bar higher for tomorrows foundations of society that our children aka. our future selves will live in.

But if we are all "mutually inferior" what good does working harder do? Try not to go to deep into this intellectual/nihilist head ball. They never end well.

If you are born physically and mentally stable, you don't need equality of opportunity.

Unless you're in Africa.

It depends in what sense you're talking about. In the OP (which, by the way, OP, if you are reading this, I did not mean to come off as attacking you), he talks more of it from an opportunistic sense. When people are given a safety net, it can also inhibit those can go faster because once again, it's creating of system of firsts and seconds. A good example of this is the No Child Left Behind Act. What you talk about, from how I interpret it, is that people are given standards for society, like civil rights, which are fundamental. Equal opportunity for success in education is not fundamental because schools are competitive by design (no matter how much they water it down) and are driven by the student's desire to learn.
