Subject: So I beat Halo: CE.

1LUV

I really don't see what was so great about it, to be honest. Maybe it would have been a lot more fun had I played it when I was younger - but it really wasn't as great as I thought it would be. (It was also the only Halo game I hadn't played yet.)

Magnum and shotgun were awesome to use, but hot damn - those vehicles were a pain in the ass to even bother with.

Not to mention that sometimes when some sneaky little camo Elite -blam!-gle with a sword pops out of nowhere and slices my spine, it would sometimes take me as far back as 5-8 minutes from that particular point because the checkpoints don't always register.

Scorpion projectile splash damage was pretty much -blam!- nonexistent, the repetitive area design with levels really became a bore and really fleshed out how long and tiring some of the levels were, etc.

What did you think about Halo: CE?

Troll or late to the party or something else suggesting you're an idiot.

Camo Elites are kind of a joke, and the checkpoints have always seemed the same between games. Most good, some bad.

The Halo: CE Scorpion had the highest splash damage of any scorpion.

Tied for best Halo, in my opinion.

Late to the party would be justifiable since the game's been out so long, but this game definitely isn't as great as people make it out to be.

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.

When I wished that I could go back to 2002 at midnight last night, I didn't think it would work.

Edit: Did you beat it on Legendary yet?

Seriously?

Because when I would shoot at an enemy, anything that wasn't practically a direct hit wouldn't do anything to them.

Halo: CE's splash damage is pretty simplistic: It's direct line of sight. If there's a bump in the terrain blocking the enemy's body from the direct impact point of the blast, he won't take any damage. This rarely happens, however.

Are you sure you weren't missing?

No, it kind of got frustrating enough on Normal because of the checkpoint issue.

I would be up for it had I bought CEA, where co-op is an option.

I would shoot pretty much right next to them (having played the other Halo games, I thought that this would surely take them out), and it did nothing.

It was like RIGHT NEXT to them. Way too close to even be considered as a miss.

Unless you were shooting at the cliffside enemies like the wraith/turret on top of the tunnel or the enemies across the bridge underground, this never would have happened.

I can only assume you're exaggerating greatly.

It was the start. every console shooter learned from halo.

Halo was the foundation that is the success of FPS.

Other shooters are great for their own reasons, Halo just kinda opened the door for them.

No doom and wolfenstein did that. Halo was only the foundation of console fps.

I noticed it the most on the bridge underground, but it would also happen up top on the snow landscape.

Not exaggerating one bit - I wouldn't claim that a game has a problem unless it truly has an issue.

Late to the party would be justifiable since the game's been out so long, but this game definitely isn't as great as people make it out to be.
It was [BLAM!!!] awesome back in 2002, but I agree - it's a decade out of date.

  • 01.01.2013 4:36 AM PDT

Quick as a razor, sharp as a bullet.

Am I the only person who actually liked the last 3 levels being previous ones (even then, Keyes had some new areas, as did The Maw)? It was like going back to an old, familiar place but with things radically different and unsettling because of the Flood and Sentinels and stuff being backwards.

Feel the same way about Halo 2 (the game that introduced me to Halo), haven't played it in a while - I'm a bit afraid that if I go back I'll be a bit disappointed.

Can not be touched.

It is my favorite Halo game. I know that I'm biased though.

I really only truly liked the last level.

Wrecked ship out in the desert, with the four-way battles (Chief, Flood, Covenant, Sentinels).

Unsuccessfully trying to bring science and reason to The Flood...

I recently played through H:CE again for about the millionth time. It is still just as good as it always was, even though it is 11 years old.

It seems like you are complaining because it doesn't hold your hand throughout the game? Yes Camo elites are sneaky, because they are -blam!- invisible!

Checkpoints take you back too far? Well no -blam!-, it is a punishment for dying. Modern games seem to be forgetting this aspect with increasing impudence. Also I don't buy your "checkpoints don't register" rubbish. I have played through this game probably about 100 times more than you and have never encountered this problem.

Yes H:CE has some flaws, but to say that it isn't great must mean that you grew up in the current gaming generation where every game is determined to hold your hand throughout.
