Troll

Except hes absolute right. Playing violent video games DO have an effect on us.

Because there's no such thing as violent music, books, comics and films. Let's not forget your family and the area you live in has no impact at all on you. So if you have a single dad that is a gangbanger and you live in a violent gang controlled area. It's not going to have any impact at all on you.

All of those have an impact on you as well. Everything you do/see has an impact on you.

+1 faith in Bungie.net

I was not expecting your reply to be that. I came into this thread as if it was one of those blame video games for everything threads.

Never trust someone named Dr. Wang.
I had a chemistry teacher names Dr. Wang; he was a pretty cool guy.

Playing violent video games such as Grand Theft Auto, Call of Duty, Halo, Mass Effect, and Skyrim (just to name a few) change your behavior and make you an aggressive, obnoxious person! Studies have proven that playing violent video games will make you a more violent person and tend to be aggressive around other people such as shoving or punching people.

If any of you need help quitting violent video games you should contact me, I can help you!

If this is a serious study, then I am a living example that it is false. You can ask anyone who knows me. I am one of the most calm, passive people you'll ever meet. I have not a single violent bone in my body, nor do I have any violent tendancies towards anybody. It seriously takes forever for me to even get the slightest bit angry, and even when people attempt to make me mad, I just laugh and ignore them because they usually always fail.

Never make me angry. I am a Hitman and I can easily find you and take you out.

Same. I am always very calm and never want to hurt anybody.

Generalizations.
Helping idiots hate other idiots since people have existed.

After one week of playing violent video games, the first group showed lower activity in their left inferior frontal lobes associated with empathy when involved in the emotional task. The fMRI also detected less activity in the game-players' anterior cingulate cortexes associated with conflict monitoring, error detection, and emotional control during the cognitive task.

It doesn't say anything about it being detrimental. It just says that it showed different activities in certain areas of the brain.

You know what else causes different activities in certain areas of the brain?
Sports.
Homework.
Just about everything does, really.

What house has a rocket pod, has legs, and has a long narrow barrel that probably shoots something powerful?

Sounds like you're describing the lower half of my body, actually.

HURRY UP! Ban video games before everyone becomes dumb and violent! It wouldn't surprise me if this is as wrong as the guy who claimed that, he didn't eat for 70 years and lived. One study, op, first of all, does not constitute it as true until many people can replicate it. You need more than one source.

incite impressional gamers...
As if we didn't know this. Most of the people this has an effect on are already predisposed to violence. A "normal" person does not want to go kill a bunch of people because they saw Mister Chief do it in Halo.

I'm not more violent, so I consider their results wrong, considering they did them on people who don't play video games. They are the most gullible.

  • 01.01.2013 11:54 AM PDT

I know you are but what am I?

Everyone here is ignoring evidence by a research team and instead using a single, personal experience to prove their ideas.

Just because you're not more violent after playing a violent videogame doesn't mean other people don't tend to be.

While the OP is a terrible troll, this is a pretty standard conclusion.

That won't stop idiots who don't understand these kinds of things from running in this thread claiming video games aren't bad because they haven't personally disemboweled anyone.

Um, it says they showed less activity in the areas of the brain that dictate empathy and emotional control, among other things. There was less activity in these areas than the control group, not different activity, lol.

"For the first time," said researcher Dr. Yang Wang of the Indiana University School of Medicine, "we have found that a sample of randomly assigned young adults showed less activation in certain frontal brain regions following a week of playing violent video games at home."

I can attest to the fact that with normal functioning people, no ill effects are to be had from playing violent video games. Now if someone has a screw loose to begin with, I can see how any violent medium could push one like that in a bad direction.
Agreed.
