I wanted one so freakin bad, but I just couldn't do, nor afford, the wankel engine.

So far I've treated it like any other car, and I've had zero problems in my 5 or so months owning it (knock on wood). Oil change every 3,000 miles, premium gas, and checking the oil every now and then. I know earlier models are famous for having problems with engine flooding, bad starters, low compression, etc. but so far I've been lucky with my '07.

Have fun when those apex seals blow.

^^^ The reason I decided to pass on an RX8.

I Love high rpm screamers, do you rev the tits out of it every now and again???

You betcha. I loosely plan routes from place to place so I can be on the highway as much as possible. Not long after owning my car one of my favorite sounds became the engine at 7,500+ RPM's, it's so addicting. My first project is gonna be getting a turbo for it, I can't wait.

Just be careful about those apex seals. If they go south, your car is done.

I have about 3 years left on Mazda's 8 year/100,000 mile engine warranty. I'm not too worried.

I love those and rotaries. I would love to own one even though they do have some slight annoyances.

Honestly the RX-8 is pretty reliable if you maintain it properly. You may have to put a little more effort into it but if you keep it up it should be pretty good.

Yeah. I was looking at an 04 RX8, and it was a long list of things I had to do to make sure the car didn't flood. Then the whole apex seals thing really turned me off from it. The cars got some eye appeal, though, and they sound great.

Two things.

1. Glad you're okay.
2. I'm so sorry. 3000GT's are awesome cars! My friend has one and it's always a blast to drive.

I just got a broken rib from the seat belt, but thats all! Thankfully no one was injured other than me, I got a citation for reckless driving though which just made the day 10x worse...

This is very true. I can bet you most people who have had problems with RX8's either treated them like normal engines, or had an '04/'05 model (which are the ones with most of the bad rep). You also have to consider the rotary engine itself only has about 3 moving parts, which was one of the drawing points for me. I don't know if I just had bad luck, or it was the fact that my first 2 cars were older/had more mileage, but I've had better reliability and fewer problems with my RX8 than both of my other cars combined.

I have a 1998 Ford Taurus. It's not bad, it's still actually quite new. We bought it from a guy who only drove it up to 9,000 miles. I've only added a few thousand to that so it's going to be my vehicles for a while.
