I like shorts. They're comfy and easy to wear.

As someone who hopes to make lots of money for doing very little, I would say no.

People pay lots of money to see athletes pay, so it's only fair that they earn lots of money.

They're not somehow cheating the system or something; their salaries reflect how much we value sports and individual athletes. If the talent pool for a hot new QB is small and fans are stuffing your pockets with cash, you can afford to enter a bidding war and drive up salaries. It's not good or bad, it's just how things work.

But yes, on a subjective "beliefs" level, I think the money could be put to better use elsewhere.

poor ilitch

Nah, the amount of revenue that comes in from sports through media advertising, tickets, and other means more than justifies how much the athletes get paid. It's simple economics.

Rock bottom is no place to set up camp. Especially in the dark.

EXTREMELY overpaid. No one should get paid that much. Much less -blam!- athletes.

Sounds like someone's jealous.

OT: I think they're paid very fairly. The time and work it takes to get into the NFL is a great feat on it's own. The revenue the NFL rakes in every year justifies them being paid so much. Like others have said, supply and demand. We give, they take.

"Progression" is a really phony word. We don't need to progress when we already have the world.

At this point, entertainment > progression.
Totally, bro. There are definitely no solvable problems in this world that threaten global peace, environmental stability, legal justice, or general happiness that could possibly be solved, and we should instead focus solely on entertainment and because as hedonistic as possible. Totally.

But the real question comes around to something like "Are we the fans paying these guys too much?"

Who said that?

But teachers, yes. They should make way more than athletes.

Why?

most people could even teach themselves through computers and the internet nowadays.

Not as effectively as teachers, and that's not the point, anyway. Teachers sacrifice a large portion of their life to lecture at snot-nosed brats who hate school and don't appreciate what they have.

Thats with ANY job that you'll have to sacrafice time. I feel teachers demanding more money with all these strikes and such all the time is really unnecesary and they're the real snobby ones.

Sure they get paid more than they probably deserve but should the money all just go to the owners then?

I just would like to see the pros be more responsible with there money and there actions.

I don't think that anyone said teachers and military should make MORE than athletes, just that teachers and military should be given higher salaries considering how much athletes get paid.

Play. Forge. Film.

Yes. By a lot.

So you can throw a ball better than someone? Heres 18 million dollars!

That's because our funding is continually cut, our class sizes are getting larger, we have to pay for supplies out of our own pockets, and people STILL say we get paid too much.

Why do people want the people who are responsible for the education of future generations to be paid so little?

Somewhat.

The only thing that bothers me is the fact that even if you're on the worst team, you're still getting paid around 7-figures for sucking.

My bad. I guess I should have qualified my statement with "normal people". Liberator also says that the military are nothing but trained murderers. I don't really take what he says seriously.

Logic= They bring in alot MORE than 18 million a year to their company.

  • 01.01.2013 1:22 PM PDT

either way, teachers, soldies etc. deserve abit more. teachers have to put up with the stress of trying to teach to those who don't care. soldiers put their life on the line so that their country is safe.

They provide entertainment and jobs to millions with that skill. If the people didn't want it, the people wouldn't pay for it.

Do you know what the NBA does with fines? When a player is fined say, $25,000, the NBA gives it to a charity of the players choice. There are hundreds of player-formed charities in the NBA alone. They may buy cars and big houses and all sorts of nice things, but a lot of their money is well spent. Not to mention how much inspiration athletes give.
