People are not gonna change. I'm Muslim and everyone online is gonna call me a terrorist, towel head and bla bla. Some are serious and some are joking. These things are not gonna stop, everyone will find a way to insult an other person, so it's whatever.
How do people know you are Muslim?

I'm pretty open about it but then the thread gets shut down lol.

For the record, I was joking in that other thread.

I know, I didn't respond in a harsh manner did I? Cause I knew you were playing.

I'll bring the tritium laser cutters if you bring the beer!

Funny story.

Please tell me more about how the sexism I suffer isn't real. Please.

That's a helluva martyr complex you have, there.

Oh my God! This is priceless.

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.

Well, as someone who has their life affected by this on a daily basis (as a female LGBT person of colour, three for three!), I find it pretty hard to see the humour in the continued perpetuation of the marginalisation of disadvantaged groups.

But you're right. Maybe I just don't have the right sense of humour required to laugh at discrimination. I think I'd have to be a far nastier person in order to find that funny.
If your life is being so affected by jokes on the internet, then that's your fault for taking words on the internet as actually meaning something. By all means, be against cyber bullying, but cracking racist and offensive jokes are intended to take a stereotype and use it for humor. If you get so butthurt over the internet when someone makes a joke, I hope you don't watch comedians perform.

Nah, just putting it out there since you mentioned it here.

If we disagree, it's nothing personal, opinions are opinions.
Antagonizing me to build a false sense of worth is so damn cute.

Brighten your day with science.

Despite some women (OP) who love getting attention, for the most part "real" girl gamers will just play and not let anything like that affect them.

This.

But Jay already acknowledged that she loves attention.

At least she isn't always "I'M A FEMALE ON THIS FORUM, LOOK AT ME" like some users.

I'm going to have a field day with that OP when I have access to my laptop later.

Just going to quickly TL:DR my view points on your OP right now. I disagree. Majorly.

Well, I don't get mad about funny jokes.

The difference is that I don't think bigotry is funny. I realise that bigots find this difficult to understand.

You're continually making the conversation about the jokes themselves when the discussion should be entirely elsewhere. It's not the jokes, it's the culture behind them that finds them funny. When something like racist jokes are treated as funny, you're completely ignoring that not only does the stereotype behind them exist, but it negatively impacts people all of the time.

Ah, so you admit that you're sexist and part of the problem, and resent the fact that you may be asked to be part of the solution.
I'm sexist when it's humorous to be so. And saying "Don't post sexist jokes" isn't a -blam!- solution. I've said this multiple times, but it doesn't seem to be getting through your head.
I'm not persecuting people for having a different mindset from mine; I'm standing up against bigotry.

That's a helluva martyr complex you have, there.
Then what the -blam!- are you suggesting? You want the forum ninjas to hunt people down and ban them because they say something that hurts your feelings. Oh yeah, that's not persecution.

"I have the right to censor you because I'm offended by what you say" is a non sequitur.

And you for some reason think that because someone makes a sexist joke or remark on the internet that it somehow makes them a large opposition to women. You know who finds sexist jokes funny? People who like jokes! Holy beavers! Who knew that there wasn't a conspiracy against women on the internet! It was people who enjoy humor all along!

I'm not going to change because someone's feelings get hurt. That's a stupid reason to make someone change. "You hurt my feelings." So the -blam!- what? Grow up, and get over it.

Uh...we're all living in contemporary Western culture right now - at least, I am, and I assume you are. It's a culture that, especially online, is unfortunately fraught with undertones of bigotry and hate against many different groups of people. Unless you literally live on a different planet, you can prove this by going outside. :P
Again, so the -blam!- what? You want everyone to hold hands around the campfire and roast marshmallows? Are you going to offer a solution other than, "Gawsh, why can't we all just get along!", because suggesting that everyone wipe a certain mindset from their way of thinking is an utter bull-blam!- way of going about things.

Men and women of all races and cultures come online and laugh at racist and offensive jokes. These are the people who understand that the internet isn't serious business.

The point is that you can't just write off blatant misogyny or bigotry by calling it a joke (Exhibit A).

Getting back to the OP, misogyny is pretty common in our society, but it is especially pervasive in the gaming community. jaythenerdkid has already gone into many of the problems with how women are treated in "nerd" communities in his/her first post. That people feel it is OK to persistently make misogynistic remarks (in a manner that oftentimes amounts to harassment), and then make the excuse that they're "joking" when called out, is the truly bull-blam!- way of going about things.
