I know, right?
Jay acts like she's better than everyone else simply because she's a chick.
I hope she chokes to death.

Ah, so you admit that you're sexist and part of the problem, and resent the fact that you may be asked to be part of the solution.
I'm sexist when it's humorous to be so. And saying "Don't post sexist jokes" isn't a -blam!- solution. I've said this multiple times, but it doesn't seem to be getting through your head.
I'm not persecuting people for having a different mindset from mine; I'm standing up against bigotry.

That's a helluva martyr complex you have, there.
Then what the -blam!- are you suggesting? You want the forum ninjas to hunt people down and ban them because they say something that hurts your feelings. Oh yeah, that's not persecution.
LOL

On that note, I'm going to go get coffee. I'm sure you'll whip yourself up into a righteous froth without any help from me. :)

If we disagree, it's nothing personal, opinions are opinions.
Antagonizing me to build a false sense of worth is so damn cute.

Brighten your day with science.

Jay knows how to troll.

White Knight much? Others helped. You can thank them as well.

There just aren't enough moments in the day to rectify the wrongs of the past.

Jay i think its time you take this to Sapphire and request a thread lock, no points are being proven when everyone is just arguing a point that no one else is agreeing with.

I am the God Emprah of Mankind.

Deal with it.

I do not care. If you don't want to be treated differently, stop thinking you're different.

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.

The point is that you can't just write off blatant misogyny or bigotry by calling it a joke (Exhibit A).

Getting back to the OP, misogyny is pretty common in our society, but it is especially pervasive in the gaming community. jaythenerdkid has already gone into many of the problems with how women are treated in "nerd" communities in his/her first post. That people feel it is OK to persistently make misogynistic remarks (in a manner that oftentimes amounts to harassment), and then make the excuse that they're "joking" when called out, is the truly bull-blam!- way of going about things.
The point is that there's nothing that can be done about it. Tell me, is there a problem with sexists and bigots on the Flood? I don't see it. If someone on the Flood makes a remark against jay or someone, it's most likely not because she's a girl, but because of how she's been presenting herself on this forum.

Kitchen jokes on here? They're not supposed to be taken seriously, and if you do take them seriously, then that just plays into the amusement of the person who made them. Not because the joke offended someone who saw it as sexists, but because someone got butthurt over the internet.

Prove to me that there is a sexism and bigotry problem on the Flood and I will agree with jay in saying that something needs to be done about it.

I'm not going to change because someone's feelings get hurt. That's a stupid reason to make someone change. "You hurt my feelings." So the -blam!- what? Grow up, and get over it.

It's not about hurting somebody's feelings. At least, not to me. I'd prefer not to, but if I hurt somebody's feelings because of a joke I make, that isn't something that I'm particularly bother by per se. But when the sentiment that causes that is so pervasive in our society that it pushes those people down in very real ways - when somebody who finds 'women belong in the kitchen' jokes funny develops the subconscious idea that ambitious women are unattractive and annoying - we need to take a good look at what we're saying, how it affects those around us, and how we can change that.

Here's something very simple that you could do, but refuse to: stop telling sexist jokes.

Tell me, is there a problem with sexists and bigots on the Flood? I don't see it.

Absolutely. That's why there's so few women here.

So you think that taking stereotypes about women and making jokes about them causes a person to truly believe it? I've never heard of someone who found an offensive joke funny becoming an opposition to a women's rights group or something similar. If they do, then the big probability is that they already had that mindset anyway.

I use female stereotypes all the time to joke with my female friends, because they set themselves up for it in conversation all the time. They know not to take it seriously because they're smart people and are able to recognize the difference between humor and protesting women's rights.

There are millions of females out in the world. I don't understand why it's such a big deal if some of them play video games or do anything else for that matter.

Or why excessive amount of attention needs to be drawn to it, in some cases.

That's silly.

Just because a female enjoys gaming, how does that make her any more special compared to the rest of her gender? Why do she deserve to be harassed or even praised for that matter, over one little interest?
