I'm 23, I have a house, dog, girlfriend, job and I have no interest in any fanboyism so if you're thinking about sending me a childish PM, don't be surprised when I don't call back.

I'm British, meaning that I drink Tea, have bad teeth, wear a top hat, etc etc

It's called stereotyping and it happens to us all.
Does your Britishness lead to you earning only 75% of what non-British people earn in comparable positions, or to one in four British people being victims of -blam!-ised violence in their lifetimes, or to a disparity in education levels between you and non-British people of comparable circumstances, or to you being systematically kept out of high-paying or highly technical professions due to your Britishness, or to any other meaningful form of discrimination at all?

Irrelevant, this discussion was started on the basis that women were being mistreated on the internet because they're women.

Making a massive statement about Female equality overall does not address my point.

The fact you are on the internet, in a MEDC, implies you are better off than the majority of the population of this planet. If you want to make this thread into a "woe is me, us women are so hard done by" thread, you lost the moment you were born white into a family with access to clean water.

I know, right?
Jay acts like she's better than everyone else simply because she's a chick.
I hope she chokes to death.

Not actually white.

But...women are mistreated on the internet because they're women, and that mistreatment has insidious and harmful consequences.

How is that irrelevant?

Not actually all that relevant. Either you read my comment, and ignored the rest because you had no response, or because you failed to comprehend it. But i'm sure you have some counter-argument that excludes anything actually worth debating and focuses on some minor aspect that is sizable for you to get your head round and post about.

I've challenged my beliefs. What is the book about?

I find that this is usually untrue. If religious people honestly, diligently and intelligently challenged their beliefs, there would be no religious people.

Also regarding the topic, stop complaining, and welcome to the club, people are insufferable pricks in real life and online, the fact you receive, women in general, hate on a regular basis, is a sign of equality.

Whatever valid point you may have had is ruined by your utter lack of respect and decency towards the person with which you were conversing. I don't blame you so much as your upbringing, but you should be aware that being a dick to everyone you disagree with won't get you far in life.

Still using a pump-action shotgun over 500 years in the future I see.

omg not realistic stop game production plz

If you want to eradicate sexism, stop talking about it.

Morgan Freeman touches upon the subject of racism with a similar approach.

To somewhat play with his quote: I'm going to stop calling you a girl gamer, and you can stop calling me a guy gamer. We're gamers who play video games, and that should be the end of it.

"Female gamers are not actually rare - I believe estimates run as high as 50% of gamers being women, which makes sense when you consider that women also make up slightly more than 50% of the planet's population. But online, they're treated as a rarity or a novelty (at best), or as a kind of freakshow (at worst). Why?"

Because when you go on an online game most of the time the lobby is full of guys. If there is a girl they're either in party chat or just don't speak.

Done. NEXT!

Why do a lot of female player profiles say things like "Yeah, I'm a girl get over it"? Like I'm supposed to care or something.

It's called attention wh0ring. Like Jay said, female gamers are treated like a novelty, so pointing out they are a girl will definitely give them attention.

That's not to say all female gamers do this, though.

Not all of them, but some do. In one profile it said "You've probably never heard a girl's voice before" That's going too far.

Now, now, just because it could be worse doesn't mean it couldn't be better.

If only the people on the bottom rung were allowed to move up the ladder, then it would take ages for anyone to reach the top. You'd just end up with some sort of ridiculous leapfrog situation.

TL;DR spoiled white boys are jerks online and have thusly drove off all the women into hiding.

I've noticed that there aren't as many hardcore female gamers but the few I play with are really good, besides most girls I know play Android games more than say battlefield.

"What are we holding on to, Sam?"
"That there's some good in this world, and it's worth fighting for."

I don't understand why this is even an issue. I treat everyone I meet, regardless of gender, race, religion, age, or any other characteristic, the same way. People who direct attention to issues like this are possibly igniting more arguments than those who just treat everyone equally. Is it so hard to simply be respectful?

Basically this. And do we even have gender stats in regards to this? Just because there's a high amount of girls in the world doesn't mean many of them play video games.
By that logic, men should contribute a lot to Barbie sales.
Stats

What this doesn't reflect is the games these people play. I bet you don't see a fat lot of girls paying Halo, GoW or CoD but I bet you see quite a few playing Pokemon, Happy Wars, etc, etc, etc.

The response to girls gaming is not because they're gaming, it's because often they're the minority in the type of game they're playing. Hell, I'm a game developer and a big gamer and so is my girlfriend, so I'm talking from experience.

Halo 3

So everyone always claims that OP is an attention whore. Other complementary insults include OP being insecure in general and in physical appearance. But for the sake of experiment, focus on one variable: attention-whore.

Well I just decided to look at OP's "Recent Posts," and I noticed a trend. OP only make threads (and most are very stirring) and post in those. If OP is not making a thread, OP doesn't seem to go on the Flood to post about anything else besides topics like these - topics related to self-image. At least that's a recent study that holds true through October 2012.

My conclusion: OP is an attention whore. Flood consensus is correct. Lock thread.
