I don't think females were made for gaming. They seem more beneficial in other areas such as the kitchen.

Here we go...

^Uh-Oh.

OT: There are a large quantity of girls in gaming, they just tend to be more centralized in certain games. For example, many of the girls I am friends with are pretty hardcore Skyrim and Minecraft players, but only one or two have ever even played Halo, and none have ever touched COD. They're not rare, they're just localized to certain games.

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.

Not the same, but a perpetuation of the same culture.

Sexism doesn't become funnier just because it happens to be non-violent. (And as I've pointed out up-thread, both I and other female members here/elsewhere have received death threats or threats of assault before, so for some people, the jump is clearly a little too easy to make.)
Yes, because the people who were forming barriers outside of schools to keep black people out and people who make jokes on the internet surely come from the same culture.

Sexism is hilarious when it's put into a good joke. You know why? Because it's a good joke. Have you ever looked at a website full of politically correct jokes? It -blam!- sucks.

Jay acts like she's better than everyone else simply because she's a chick.
I hope she chokes to death.

Don't they?

It's the same culture, love. Just because people take advantage of it to differing degrees, doesn't mean they don't get their ideas from the same places.

And nope, sexist jokes still aren't funny. Sorry.

Not to you. I know a lot of girls who make anti-women jokes and comments about their own gender. Nobody cares if YOU don't find it funny. That means absolutely nothing.

And you ever wonder maybe you get the threats you get because people simply don't like you and the most obvious difference between you and the majority of those who sent those is most likely your gender, so that's the easiest to pounce on for insults. Easiest way to illicit emotions from females is to tell them something along the lines of the threats you've received and it works.

Messed up? Of course.
So...you admit that it's messed up, but think it's fine that it happens and nothing should be done about it?

I guess it matters if you take the internet seriously.
I guess I'm not a sociopath, so I take any community where human beings post seriously, whether or not I can see their faces.

Another point to make females aren't the only ones who recieve nasty comments online. About a month ago I made a thread about my beloved pet cat which I had since I was a child dying and people were asking twisted stuff like "did you eat it" and "did you pee on it" and other stupid crap. I knew it was coming and simply ignored it. You just gotta have a thick skin, if you ignore it they will get bored and look for a softer target.

Yes they are. Just like racist jokes are funny. All offensive jokes are funny. IF they are done correctly.

Regardless of whether or not they are funny, they seem to do much more harm than good.

There just aren't enough moments in the day to rectify the wrongs of the past.

Saw a girl in COD yesterday, had a really obvious girl gamertag name so i asked "So Blonde barbie are you actually a girl?" She replied with yes i am, so my curiosity was satisfied. I ended up killing her at least a dozen times while only getting killed myself once or twice by explosives. Most girl gamers i meet are usually bad, so thats all i have to say on the matter.

Oh really? You made the statement, therefore the burden of proof is upon you to provide a credible sociological source stating that people who make sexist jokes on the internet come from the same culture as people who enslaved someone based on their race.

Also, who gives a -blam!- if you don't think they're funny? Does that mean you deserve the right to deny the satisfaction that other people may derive from the joke?

You're being ridiculous if you think everyone here is posting 100% serious all the time.

Nothing should be done about it because there is nothing wrong with making jokes about any one gender. Threats in PMs are different and should not be tolerated.

Jokes don't turn people in racists or sexists. Those people were or weren't racist/sexist beforehand.

I think you're missing the point. The argument is not that those two groups subscribe to the same culture. It is that the cultures they belong to both looked at the problems they were facing and responded with a Burkean "well, that's just the way things are, so we might as well leave them be".

Well there's your problem. You're taking this forum seriously. Look at all of the Darth Vader vs. MLP threads and try to take this forum seriously.

Rule Number 71 of the internet is in fact sarcasm.
If you take the internet seriously, you're gonna have a bad time.

That's not the argument I'm making. By making sexist, racist, homophobic, or any of those sorts of jokes, you're trivializing the underlying truth behind the joke. By making "women belong in the kitchen joke", you're trivializing the real problem that is the lack of women participating in various industries.

I don't think the problem is so much that an individual doesn't find it funny (Plenty of people tell boring jokes, and I couldn't care less.), but that it reinforces ideas that a lot of people, both women and men, have to suffer because of.
