Great thread, guys. Didn't just prove his point at all, nope.

If you get offended by something on the internet, you shouldn't be on the internet.
GUYS, WHY DO PEOPLE GET OFFENDED WHEN I DO OFFENSIVE THINGS, DON'T THEY KNOW THAT PEOPLE WHO GET OFFENDED BY OFFENSIVENESS ARE OVERSENSITIVE

The sad thing is, that was a serious thread created without any ulterior motive other than opening a serious discussion, and people still couldn't resist hijacking it to talk about how much they hate Harlow. Those same people claim hostility isn't a problem here.

I think that more or less speaks for itself.

It wasn't a serious thread in any way. It was a way for Harlow to, as he usually does, talk down to people.

In the wise words of Stephen Fry;
'It's now very common to hear people say, "I'm rather offended by that", as if that gives them certain rights. It's no more than a whine. It has no meaning, it has no purpose, it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. "I'm offended by that." Well, so -blam!- what?'

Basically, stop complaining.
Ironically, he meant this about people who are offended by equal rights campaigners, not about people who are offended by people being hateful. Seeing as he's a pretty big proponent for LGBT rights for obvious reasons, you'd think I wouldn't need to clarify that.

Any scmub can see it, just from the OP. The truth is, most people don't like excessive moderation like Harlow does. I understand that the moderating team of Sapphire are fascists, and that's Harlow's own prerogative. But he has no right trying to force his phony and elitist beliefs on the rest of us.

Harlow and those who agree with him are blowing this way out of proportion. Most of the threads and posts in The Flood are just general discussion. Sure, people have varying opinions and things can get heated sometimes but that is what fuels good discussion. I just don't think hostility is a major problem causing issue in The Flood.

Okay, that's nice. But you're complaining because people on the internet are offending you? I'm glad you care about them so much, but learn it doesn't actually affect you in real life. I'm sure it doesn't keep you up at night.
"OH NO, THAT USER OFFENDED ME! I CAN'T SLEEP".
Get over it.

A) If you're offended by something posted anonymously by a stranger thousands of miles away, it was either really really really horrible, or you're the type of cat Tweety thought he saw.

B) It hasn't been hijacked because we hate Harlow. His reputation and comments/policies are something to note when he makes a claim like that. We just also happen to hate that e-fascism, too.

C) This is the internet, baby! It represents freedom of expression at it's finest! If we want to be dicks to complete strangers, we're going to. If you're going to whine about hostility, just stop coming here. That's the beauty of the internet, and the reason all this cyber-bullying legislation is nonsense- Nobody is making you visit. Or read this. Or do anything.

Preeeeeeeetty much.

  • 01.02.2013 1:23 AM PDT

How is this anything new? The Flood has always been like this. If anything, it was worse back in 2008 when Anchronos had to issue the Play Nice Rules.

And it's kind of ironic that the original thread comes from Harlow, who posts in here regularly enough to be part of this community. It's just a massive dosage of -blam!-ing and complaining from people like him. No offense intended there, just an observation that people from both The Community Forum and The Flood have pointed out.

And it's worse in the game forums (e.g - Reach). Much worse.

Oh, so now people who don't support LGBT progress aren't allowed to express their opinions? Oh, because their opinions are wrong?

No, that's not how it works, Jay. I'm for -blam!- rights and marriage, all for it. But as I am entitled to my opinion, so is everyone else. The only person wrong here is anyone who thinks a viewpoint is wrong. Everyone deserves equal freedom to express themselves. Even the ignorant douches.

If you would take away someone's right to express themself just because YOU believe they are wrong, you're a hypocritical bastard.
