To be honest flood, i don't think that The walking dead deserved game of the year, the amount of content it had makes it non-comparable to some triple-A games that came out this year.

For example, Guild Wars 2. That was a great game and is still very populated, it still has dynamic events very often and has alot of leveling story content. Not to mension the endgame, it has extremely balanced PvP, and great dungeons. The bossfights are just amazing. U can put a good few hundred hours on each character u make in that game. The amount of good content it has makes it uncomparable to TheWalking Dead. In my opinion Guild Wars 2 deserved game of the year. Not only did it have more content but in some cases better content. Now to compare it i will have to compare the story in Guild wars 2 to the story in The Walking Dead. The personal story line in Guild wars was great but kind of short, although there were different races and every race had a few stories to tell that got tweaked the further u go in by every decision u make it was still short. But i still think it was better than The walking dead's story line.

What game does flood think deserved the game of the year award?

Don't judge a book by its cover, unless it has bacon on the cover, then it is a good book.

The Walking Dead has not won because it was a game full of addictive content, but because it is unique in many ways and brought a whole genre into a new direction.
GW2 was just another very good RPG from what I could gather.

I am fine with that "official" GOTY though. I love TWD. But I still find the title "overall best game/movie/book 2012" a little bit worthless.

game of the year is a fundamentally obscure title that varies wildly depending on what qualities a particular group prefers. slightly more rigid titles like "rpg of the year" or "multiplayer of the year" make a *bit* more sense.

What's the better game (TWD vs GW2) is just a matter of opinion. I, for example, can't imagine to really have fun in GW because I am not into classic RPGs at all, but it still deserves the GOTY-title as much as TWD does.

And TWD has not won because it was a game full of addictive content, but because it is unique in many ways and brought a whole genre into a new direction.

It seems like you are not that fimiliar with older MMO RPG's. But GW2 kind of also brought the genre into a new direction. The questing system was fixed and made better and that was the main problem with every MMO RPG. The drop system was also tweaked for the better and every MMO after GWW" used the same system. There is no more loot stealing, or kill stealing (when u wait for something to spawn so that u can kill it and get the item u want but someone else just happen to drop by when it spawns and hit it first so they get the loot). I think u get what i am trying to say here, GW2 changed alot of -blam!- for the better.

Yes, Battlefield also added a whole new way of destruction that was never there in a FPS and other games also had features that brought the genre forward. That's not what I mean with a "new direction" though.

What TWD achieved (I assume you didn't play it) is far more. It's not really easy to explain... it's like "Journey": It found a whole new way to bring it's message that is unique in gaming. That's why both games won so many awards.

I understand what you are talking about but from what i have seen/heard the game is not the greatest at it's gameplay and that is what matters the most for me in video games.

That's the thing: It's gameplay is not as much in the foreground as it is in a FPS or RPG. It's built like you live through a comic, seamlessly integrating point-and-click gameplay into a breathtaking story.

You simply set the priorities different. Have a different view of what a game is supposed to be.
