I can see that leading to report abuse very easily.

What's the point? This isn't going to stop anything. Why is everyone suddenly going all forum cop?

  • 01.02.2013 5:48 AM PDT

Progo, Shrew, Chryso, all are the same.

I think it's cool that you want to help clean up the forums, but having had moderating experience on a browser game I can say that the internet will always be the internet, the best thing you can do is be a respectful poster/player and therefore an example, nothing kills a troll like a healthy discussion.

You can't report a post more than once. Sincere members will not abuse. The other members will not join.

It's time we did something about it. I'm dissapointed at you lack of imagination. This will be effective with only a few dedicated members. The more the better

I can't do anything by myself, exept sending PMs to all the mods. The idea is that we work together.

Is the problem really that bad? No.

You didn't address my question.

Winston Churchill: "If I were your husband I'd drink it !"

Should of posted this in the classifieds; although I do think its border lining a good idea, just a majority of the members that join wil abuse or won't hold a maturity level ie. I can see people reporting people who aren't even breaking the rules.

Your first question was: "What's the point?
Be more specific. From my perspective you're either wondering about the purpose of the group, or you simply don't see a problem with rule violators going unnoticed. Or maybe perhaps it's one of those retorical questions.

Second question: "Is the problem that bad?"

Yes, in my opinion it is.

Just use the report button.
That is exactly what this thread is about and I'm glad you're taking the liberty of informing everyone. Thank you.

Or am I missunderstanding? perhaps you're telling me to use the report button. If that is the case then I would say your trust in the report button is missplaced. If every reported post showed in the report queue then it would quickly get filled with unnecessary things. Therefor it takes more than one report for it to show.
But I suppose you're already aware of this, beeing mythic member and all. So, thanks again.

This has been attempted before. It worked for a while, but it didn't last.
Its requires a relatively large amount of consistent attention, which, for most people is a lot to ask.

edit; WHY THE -blam!- DIDN'T YOU CALL IT VIGILANTES OR WATCHMEN OR SOMETHING COOL AND VIGILANTE SUPERHERO THING RELATED?!!?!! HOW DO YOU EXPECT PEOPLE TO CARE WITH A BORING NAME LIKE THAT?!

I don't speak for anyone other than myself, but I would rather you didn't.

AFAIK, the point of a Report button is that it sees whether single users separately come to the same conclusion. Not whether a collective has decided to throw their weight behind a single person's find.

If the report button isn't working, request that the webteam come up with a solution, don't try to cheat the system (even if you think it's for a good cause).

My 2p

Reporting shouldn't be your focus. You should spend that time simply browsing the forums, avoiding the bad threads, trying to post positive things. When you see something you don't think belongs, then sure, take 2 seconds to report it and move on. You can't crush all the trolls and flamers, your best of solving the problem is to try to outnumber them. To set a good example, and hope others follow it. After all, when you crush 1 troll, more will take their place. The report button is just one part of a two-pronged attack.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

I disagree on the "if you're not sure if you should report it, don't."

A single, misplaced report won't affect anything, and it is still up to the webteam to carry out any acts of justice. I would rather have the community be a bit too antsy with the button than shy away from it.

Most of what I say is sarcasm, the rest is of the highest intellect.

Isn't that singling people out, or publicly broadcasting "offensive" material?

You are deluded.

I agree.

The report function (as it exists) is democratic and an example of vox populi (the voice of the people) in action.

Any attempt to leverage or exploit it (and using a group to intentionally trigger the report threshold IS an exploit) is ill-advised. I can understand the intent, but the application of this undermines the point of the report system in the first place.

People have to see the "offending post" themselves and decide to report it or not. Having people crowd-source the process would make it less effective, not more.
