Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"
I think most people are missing the point entirely here. First off, I want to clarify one thing. EVERYTHING CHANGES. If you disagree, then you simply have not experienced life enough. I'm not calling people young or kids, or saying people are stuck in their houses. Not in the slightest. But the fact of the matter is that all facets of life will change and evolve. You can try and counter that with colloquialisms like "Nothing ever changes" or "the more things change, the more things stay the same," but the fact is that those are simply phrases and not based on any real truth.
Second point, if Halo 4 was an attempt to rip off cod, then it was a piss poor attempt, as so few parts of those two games are similar. Halo 4's game play is still very much slower than the other's, and COD's perk system is so much more different than the ordinance drops. Any attempts to draw parallels between the two should stop at "Uh, well, they both have guns."
My last point I am going to make is the important one, and the one people should pay attention to the most. 343i is inheriting a huge IP, and there is a lot of pressure on them to deliver. Most people would see this as something that would force them to recreate the previous gaming experiences of the past Halo franchise releases.
To this I say "Nay."
With so much pressure, 343i would want to get away from the old titles, separate themselves, and more importantly their product, from the previous hit titles. With distance between the two games, fans and critics will compare the two games less and see Halo 4 as a stand alone entity, which it is and should be. Halo 4 is a relaunch of a great title, and attempting to keep the same game formulae would only cause additional stagnation of a series, as well as be viewed as an attempt to copy something and "ride the coattails" of another developer.
In conclusion, creating a different game out of the Halo franchise was the best possible move. As I've described, no new studio picking up such a large name would want to be seen as "just copying their style," and would much rather want to lay out a new definition that they love and would want to stick to in the future releases.
