BULL-blam!-

I'm only critising the quote, not Halo 4.

Some of you may have come across this quote various times from people defending Halo 4.

Why should people have to change? That's what I'm trying to point out. After several Halo games, based upon the same features etc. you'd expect 343i to try and maintain the general formula. So if Halo 4 seems like a changed game, why should the community change too? The community has experienced many good Halo moments together in the past, some may see Halo 4 as OK, many others see Halo 4 as an obstacle/problem with flaws. The latter outweighs the first statement. So IMO, 343i have changed the Halo 4 formula to please the first statement, which consists of casual gamers. So what about the Halo veterans? Who exist in a smaller amount? Who have long played Halo which has evolved around the same features, principals and gameplay.

Good times die hard.

This is my opinion and not fact. Your opinion Flood?

GOAT

Because if we don't change, we'll complain forever. Devs don't want to make the same game over and over, they want change.

I'm all for changes to improve the game, it's when people start doing change for the sake of change and end up making the game worse that you either need to just stick to the tried and tested formula or stop making sequels.

Nahman Jayden, Eff bee eye. I herd that you're the origammy killah...

Ok, I agree that the "People can't accept change" is a poor excuse made by fanboys, simply put. You should never change things for the sake of change. I do love when Devs innovate and make something new, but Halo 4 literally copyed almost ALL of its new features from other games, rather than inventing its own unique features. However, it's their opinion and you should just keep that in mind, even if you think they're wrong.

That doesn't leave out room for improvement, however...

No one should ever be afraid of looking stupid, so long as they are making a rational effort to expand their understanding.

Do tell, list all the features that were the same from Halo CE to Halo 2, Halo 2 to Halo 3, Halo 3 to ODST, and ODST to Reach.

Halo 4 didn't changed, just copy/paste game styles from other games instead of being original and innovative.

Ignore my gamertag. It's actually Dragonzzilla.

Does anyone care what the developers want? They're fans just as much as we are if not more.

  • 01.02.2013 8:19 AM PDT

change for the sake of change is bad. good change which fixes the problems with the initial product, however, is good.

change on its own is not good. good change is good.

if only game developers could understand this. if they have a good product, they need to listen to how to make it better by tweaking what they already have, not go and start something entirely different.

I think they tried to make Halo too much like CoD in order to reel in more people from Activision

How charged with punishments the scroll.

Change goes hand in hand with progress.

I'd imagine if nobody tried anything new, we'd be playing HD Pong right now.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

I think most people are missing the point entirely here. First off, I want to clarify one thing. EVERYTHING CHANGES. If you disagree, then you simply have not experienced life enough. I'm not calling people young or kids, or saying people are stuck in their houses. Not in the slightest. But the fact of the matter is that all facets of life will change and evolve. You can try and counter that with colloquialisms like "Nothing ever changes" or "the more things change, the more things stay the same," but the fact is that those are simply phrases and not based on any real truth.

Second point, if Halo 4 was an attempt to rip off cod, then it was a piss poor attempt, as so few parts of those two games are similar. Halo 4's game play is still very much slower than the other's, and COD's perk system is so much more different than the ordinance drops. Any attempts to draw parallels between the two should stop at "Uh, well, they both have guns."

My last point I am going to make is the important one, and the one people should pay attention to the most. 343i is inheriting a huge IP, and there is a lot of pressure on them to deliver. Most people would see this as something that would force them to recreate the previous gaming experiences of the past Halo franchise releases.

To this I say "Nay."

With so much pressure, 343i would want to get away from the old titles, separate themselves, and more importantly their product, from the previous hit titles. With distance between the two games, fans and critics will compare the two games less and see Halo 4 as a stand alone entity, which it is and should be. Halo 4 is a relaunch of a great title, and attempting to keep the same game formulae would only cause additional stagnation of a series, as well as be viewed as an attempt to copy something and "ride the coattails" of another developer.

In conclusion, creating a different game out of the Halo franchise was the best possible move. As I've described, no new studio picking up such a large name would want to be seen as "just copying their style," and would much rather want to lay out a new definition that they love and would want to stick to in the future releases.

Also, very few artists spent the prime of their careers trying to recreate the same piece over and over just because people liked it.

The changes that Halo 4 were not for the better. At least make your ideas instead of completely ripping off ideas from other games.

Youtube page

if you can't except that Halo is changing, that is fine. But stop complaining about the inevitable and just go back to playing the classic halo you love. Simple as that.
