I feel like everyone in this thread has the impression that the only people playing games under 18 are 11 year old spoiled brats who scream into their mic.

Also, it's rather funny that anyone under 18 is enraged by this, but the second they hit 18 they could care less about everyone under them. Come on guys, you were kids once. How would you feel if something you had access to for ages was suddenly stripped away because some other people suddenly felt it wasn't good for you? The actions of the few ruining it for everyone?

In this I can understand how gun owners feel.

Misplaced blame to be honest instead of addressing the real issues, for both instances.

This is utter nonsense to anyone who has two brain cells which can rub together and generate a spark of thought.

That would be the dumbest thing that could ever happen.

I accidentally pressed report when I was trying to press some random 'reply' button... but failed. I wish I could take it back... sorry!

  • 01.02.2013 8:24 AM PDT

That won't be true, Xbox would be losing a lot of money.

I'm having a bit of trouble understanding what you're trying to say, chief. Try to be more specific sometimes.

What are these first person words you speak of?

I heard or read a rumor in the last few days that you may need a government issued ID in order to play M rated games on the new XBox. More than likely its nonsense, but I hope it's true. I've long been an advocate for an adults only XBL experience, and this would be one way to make it happen.

In short, the XBox 720 is rumored to have a card reader. The gamer, when playing M rated games, will have to either swipe, or insert a government issued ID card to play. The idea is to finally have means to enforce the ESRB rating system, that parents and store clerks ignore.

I know it's more than likely just a rumor, but it's one I hope is true.

Under aged Floodians may flame away now. Go ahead, give into your rage.

The idea behind ESRB is not to enforce itself, it's to give a helpful guideline to people so they know what to expect from a game, when giving it to a friend, child, family member ect.

Teh puma wouldn't mind older people being the primary audience for xbox live, but charlie, your reasoning for it is terrible.

Misplaced blame regarding violent outbreaks. IE blaming gun laws and video games for violence, when they are clearly not the root of the issue.

I'm 18 so I don't care either way. Although this sounds stupid.

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

That sounds horrible. I can't imagine not having been able to play Doom or Mortal Kombat as a kid. I feel bad for kids today who might have to deal with that.

Seems to me like you don't understand what I'm trying to say. I'm saying that because of squeakers and other annoyances, people advocate toward regulations restricting underage play.

Much like how, due to recent shooting rampages, people are advocating towards stricter gun laws.

I'm aware that the two are vastly different, but the similarity is there.

Never going to happen and you'd have to be retarded to think that MS would ever hinder people from playing their consoles in any way, shape or form.

As nice as that would sound, children will lie about their age. Always. They'd just use their parents' ID card.

And what would stop children from simply swiping their parents card or whatever this is in order to play.

Also, Age=/=Maturity

I have met 16 and 17 year olds who can handle mature games, so this method isn't going to solve the problem.

Or Parents can not buy M rated games for 5 year olds. The government doesn't need to be parenting children and this is a stupid idea.

So the main demographic of Xbox players would not be able to play mature games?

Yeah that isn't going to happen. Though it would be nice.

Considering you have to be 17 to play a mature game, this should be obvious.

But his point was some younger kids can handle "mature content" and that it should be up to the parents to decide on that.

The only kids that ever react off video games have mental issues or that is all they do. If my kid wants to play a video game i'd watch his reaction to it and go from there. I know some of my friends as a kid got scared off some games and stayed away from them because so. Others could "handle it" and didn't act any different because it was a game.

Having kids come over to a house and play videogames together is a good idea too. The adult doesn't need to oddly be in the room watching them but if they walk by and it is getting out of hand they can do something. If my child is going to play video games all day i would rather the whole neighborhood being playing them at my house or another parents. This way the kids still stay social and yet adults are around to watch.

The issue isn't complicated and i honestly think the media over hypes it. Parents are the problem not the kids.

No the rating system is there as a guidelines, as is the MPAA Rating system. If you are 11 you aren't able to buy a ticket for a R rated movie. Why should an 11 year old be able to play a M rated game.

Its not about maturity in all cases. The idea behind this rumor, is that parents should have to show that an adult is present when someone is playing these games.

Currently, the system is that any kid with $60 can walk into a Target, buy Black Ops II, go home and play it. No parental supervision at all. Yet that same kid can't see a R rated movie without an adult there. Why is there this difference?

I know its a rumor, but I think its not such a bad idea. Its not telling you you can't play the game, just that an adult has to be present. Like a R rated movie.
