Swipe every time? Ugh, sounds like a pain in the ass. I wouldn't mind stiffer verification, but that sounds excessive. Besides, kids could still just use their parent's card.

  • 01.02.2013 9:42 AM PDT

More than likely, they'll just use their parents ID card. This ain't going to stop any avid young gamer.

Also, it would kind of suck if you misplaced yours or left it somewhere you won't be able to go for awhile.

Of course it isn't true. The amount of types of ID in the world is massive and that makes ID theft incredibly easy.

This would only work if the Xbox was sold only in America.

Other countries don't have government issued drivers licenses?

That rumor sounds so dumb. I highly doubt its true.

I'm not trying to start a political debate, but I hope you understand the political implications in that sort of course of action being taken.

He doesn't nor do the others that would support such a stupid thing.

The same people will then be posting up a storm when their favorite Fap site needs an ID.

Thank God I'll be 18 by then if it's true

Stop banning me please.

Am I the only one who doesn't mind teens buying rated M games when they can easily view much much worse on the net?

  • 01.02.2013 9:52 AM PDT

I don't think Microsoft has access to our ID Numbers...

The world isn't standardized..... herp.

In Canada every province has it's own different type of drivers license. In my own province of Nova Scotia they have these weird barcodes on the back and imprinted reverse images on the front.

Good luck trying to consolidate and duplicate those nationwide just for a videogame console.

Like I mentioned earlier, this idea is limited in scope to a select spot of the world and therefore a ridiculous idea.

I am 15 and I enjoy playing M rated games. I don't scream at anyone or cause any trouble. Heck, it seems like the people who are above 18 are the ones that start trouble most of the time. That would be a very stupid idea in my opinion. I am aware that some young kids can be very annoying but the mute button is in place. There would be no need for such a feature on the 720.

Of course not, dip-blam!-.

What I was saying is that other countries have IDs, which could be formatted to work with the 720.

The sheer amount of laws, privacy invasion - even then the parents could just swipe there card, theres going to be no solid way of proving who's on the console.

Especially in different countries. It's just a rumor. Besides theres no plausible way Microsoft would be able to market a console under the name Xbox 720 it would just be laughable.

I don't see why you couldn't just select your country, province, or state from a drop-down box and then put in your license number.

Do you have to register for this Government I.D. or does a license/state ID work? If the latter, wouldn't the kids just use their parents?

My third montage!

I have mixed feelings about this. While in theory it's a great idea, it doesn't address the real problem, parents not taking responsibility and playing attention to what kind of media their children are consuming.

Formatted...lol.

Do you think in a decade where nearly every government, including my own, is dealing with crippling financial debts and crumbling infastructure have the priority to go out and make sure every state, province and territory has a compatible card to insert into some console hardware.

No, they have better things to worry about.

Hell, some countries still have licenses and documentations on written paper and not plastic. Do you suggest they start jamming paper products into video game consoles...?

Think of the AI army potential!

CE can have up to 80 active AI (in CE, PC, and Anniversary) and still functions 100% (dropped weapons still only disappear when you're not looking at them, picked up weapons may never disappear, it only really lags when the AI are firing).

Halo 2 can have up to 60 AI (actually, it's 200, courtesy of infinitely spawning Johnsons at the end of Great Journey) and has a few consequences (Tartarus disappears, no particles, guns may stop working, diving into a group of AI reloads the checkpoint).

Halo 3 can have up to 40 AI (on foot) or 60 AI (in vehicles) and has very little consequences for the former and a few consequences for the latter (glitched level bsp, no particles, you can see weapon models without their surface texture).

Halo Reach and 4 can barely have AI (or vehicles) without lagging. It's not possible to achieve a high AI number in either game so there's no known side effects. Halo 4 in particular avoids this issue by not leaving the AI on the map at all! -blam!- disappointing!

Something like that would decimate the sales for the console. The majority of games currently for the Xbox 360 are rated M and a large percentage of the people who play those games are under 17. Doing something like that would not be a wise decision for Microsoft as a business. I doubt they'll do it.
Why would it do that? The "Average" gamer is older than you think...

I am beginning to think you guys don't want your parents to see your games. You may know full well they would not approve, and want to keep them in the dark. To the point you will just say that the gaming industry would crash.

The biggest problem I see is the annoyance of forgetting my DL in the damned xbox.
I'm never going to believe that.

Ever.

People don't seem to understand that those survey's include people buying games as gifts, as well as people who pretty much play Farmville/Angry Birds for an hour a week. It's hardly a representation of gaming enthusiasts.

  • 01.02.2013 10:06 AM PDT

they'd be kicking themselves in the teeth. sales for m rated games would drop significantly. look at all the teens under the age of 18 who play cod for example. i do not see this happening.

In one way I am happy in another I am not.

I played Halo when I was younger than the suggested age. But to be honest the Halo games should not be rated M. Compare them to God of War or something like that and they aren't even in the same category.
