The objective of war is not to die for your cause. It is to make your enemies die for theirs.

Something like that would decimate the sales for the console. The majority of games currently for the Xbox 360 are rated M and a large percentage of the people who play those games are under 17. Doing something like that would not be a wise decision for Microsoft as a business. I doubt they'll do it.
Why would it do that? The "Average" gamer is older than you think...

I am beginning to think you guys don't want your parents to see your games. You may know full well they would not approve, and want to keep them in the dark. To the point you will just say that the gaming industry would crash.

The biggest problem I see is the annoyance of forgetting my DL in the damned xbox.

I never said anything about the "Average" player. I only said that a large percentage of the people playing rated M games are under 17. I never said anything about a an average player.

Join the Halo Haven group!

it would never happen because all of the game companies know about the young people playing their games and they wouldn't want to have to say goodbye to all of those sales.

Agreed. All the changes are good and add variety. Do we really want another Halo 3? Just running around with one gun and no armor abilities? It's good that 343 wants to try something new. Do we really want the same thing for three more games?

That might be one of the dumbest business moves I have ever heard in my entire life.

  • 01.02.2013 10:21 AM PDT

This is more than likely not true.

Most video-games get their ratings from the third party company ESRB. Getting your game rated by ESRB is actually voluntary and not a requirement for the sale or distribution of your game. However, most game companies get their games rated as a way to help consumers, especially the parents of maturing children, when deciding to purchase a game based on its content.

Playing games rated or those 17 and older isn't illegal by any means by the US Constitution, it is only discouraged by the companies that make the game, so as not to have thousands angry parents calling them everyday.

Good.

Ignore my gamertag. It's actually Dragonzzilla.

I think they're calling the 720 just the Xbox.

  • 01.02.2013 10:29 AM PDT

Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.

I don't really see this happening.

And then people will use their parents id

Why?

As the very speculative rumor goes, you would need an ID to play an M rated game. As several people pointed out, you would just use your mom or dad's. The only thing is that you would need to explain why you needed it when you asked for it...

I gaze upon the stars and see the majesty that is the universe.

EGO mos bulla astrum.

That would be an unfair law though. After you buy a product they lose control of it. ESRB rating system doesn't apply to online experiences. Therefore it would give the government the right to intervene on all of your property if it has some sort of rating system.

Sorry Charlie (pun not intended) but I'd prefer to own my products after buying them.

Thats stupid but oh well. Ill just let my 11 year old nephew use my card if that is the case whenever he wants to play Halo or COD.

...but its OK to demand ID to see or buy a R rated movie...

This system already exists.

"What are we holding on to, Sam?"
"That there's some good in this world, and it's worth fighting for."

Doesn't bother me either way. Whatever happens is fine. This is of course a flamebait thread, but anyone here who's an adult won't be bothered.

What are you exactly? Because you just don't seem to have common sense or know "how things are".

Is a kid really going to ask for an ID? Hell no.

Will a kid just grab the ID from their parents wallet on the counter or table? yes.

I have never been asked for an ID when i buy an R rated movie from a store.

It is a movie theater which is public. You don't want a bunch of kids buying tickets to Scream 4 and then going crazy after seeing it. There is a difference with public government control and the government invading what goes on in your own house.

It's common sense charlie which is why i don't think you have any. Whenever an adult says no The child is going to be a smartass and find a work around or just ignore it.

Thats what kids do. This doesn't have anything to do with me other than the reality of the situation.

Movie theaters are no more public than this forum. Like the rules and the mods that enforce them, the MPAA self regulates. You are supposed to be ID'd at the register. The store selling the movies to you could lose its ability to do so were they caught.

Wouldn't surprise me if it was an internal rumor purposely 'leaked' to gauge public reaction should they use such a system.

  • 01.02.2013 10:56 AM PDT

In the UK, it's illegal for someone in a store to sell a game to someone under it's rating. If you're under 18, your can't buy an 18 game.

It's also worth pointing out that this is extremely unlikely, and won't prevent people from playing games online whilst underage. Parents buy their children games that they're too young to buy, and parents will let them use this "government issued ID card" to play them. When you consider the idea that Xbox's aren't soley sold in the US, and niether is XBL, this idea becomes extremely flawed.

  • 01.02.2013 10:56 AM PDT

Now let's get down to business, I don't got no time to play around, what is this?

I did the other day, and I'm not 18 for another month :O

I have never seen or heard of anybody ever being ID'd over a movie charlie.Ever. I don't remember seeing my parents doing that nor have i seen anybody at walmart or moviestop.

The only time i have seen ID's being needed at a movie stop was if it had P0rn. which was generally kept in another room in the back and you couldn't even get in there without an ID.

I guess you wan to go start something with Walmart,Target,Redbox and the like because they don't ID movies.
