Because you don't understand that it won't stay with online gaming and that the government shouldn't be raising children.

All of this has to do with parenting nothing to do with the government.

Also, I dont care if they are mature or not. I was mature at 18, but I still couldnt go buy some beers. Thats just how the world works.

So basically, you're just fine with some stupid rule because "OPE, WELL I GUESS THAT'S JUST HOW THE WORLD WORKS"

What rule is stupid?

...The ID one, if they actually implemented it.

Give me a few reasons why its stupid.

All I see are positives.

Decreased sales
And, well, it's just pointless. Why exactly should teenagers not be able to play mature rated video games? And don't say "Oh, well they just can't, that's how the world works". There's no legitimate reason why. And now this will probably turn into a video game violence discussion, which I really don't want because it's goddamn stupid.

The Flood is just this awesome :D

This is probably the dumbest idea that M$ could come up with. They would lose so many console deals this way. Plus, there are mature children out there, so they would be denied too.

OK, this is giving parents another tool to help them parent. If they are OK with allowing their kid to gun down civilians in a Moscow Airport, then they will hand the card over.

This is helping parents on a topic they find confusing.

Confusing? How is it confusing? There's no difference between buying the game, and giving their kid an ID that simply allows them to play the game.

Sometimes when I look at the moon at night, my mind embraces the thought of a love so vivid and true that I almost believe it is real. Then, due to my delusions, I am forced back into reality and begin to indulge myself in real life vices such as chocolates and German board games to get that once natural high.

OP, you make me laugh!

If they wanted to parent that way, then they could just not buy the game anyways. Hell, don't buy the console, either. This is just an unneeded way of controlling who plays just because of a minority that plays CoD and screams when they die.

*sigh*

OK, as it stands right now, since any retailer will sell any kid any game, parents just see themselves as the ride to the store, and the wallet the money comes out of. They don't know that "God of War" has sex and bloody violence. They just know their kid bugged them about going to best buy for it.

Now, if suddenly the Xbox is telling the kid they need a DL to play.... They are going to wonder why. Or when the kid takes the ID and leaves it in the console. Either way, they will wonder why. Maybe, maybe they will take this as a moment to wonder just why a company is demanding to see an ID to play with their media.

Im not worried about sales. Video game sales will ALWAYS be high.

Why shouldnt kids be able to drink?
Why shouldnt kids be able to drive?
Why shouldnt kids be able to watch adult movies?

Cause research has shown that all these things are harmful to them. Just as letting kids play call of duty and interact with 18+ adults is harmful to them.

Annnndddd there went 75% of the games population.
Why would a 37 year old gamer who has been playing for 20 years stop playing because of this?

You know...just wondering...why and all...

I don't believe that's entirely accurate.

Maybe on PC's or Playstation, or Wii/Wii-u. But when I'm playing games like Call of Duty, or Halo, almost every lobby consists of guys, or a G.I.R.L(Guy In Real Life), who are normally below seventeen; On average their age is around 12-14.

And the people on my friends list, who are younger, are normally playing games like Halo or CoD.

That's why I said they'd lose a majority of their population. I said 75% as an over exaggeration, though the drop in mainstream games would drop quite a bit.

So you are contradicting a properly conducted study with your own anecdotal evidence?

Seems legit.

Well aren't you just a ball of sunshine.

Common sense isn't factual evidence. My common sense tells me that people considered children who interact with adults will only make them more adult-like.

yep

sure

video games are harmful to children

I've been playing violent video games since I was 6 and wouldn't hurt anything

but okay sure, if the study that you didn't bother to link says so I guess I'm violent

but before I go

kids can't drink because it legitimately harms them, they can't drive because a lot of them are irresponsible, and they can't watch adult movies because...well, I don't know

either way video game violence doesn't harm children, unless they're really young and mentally scars them or something BUT THAT'S IRRELEVANT

I'm done.

To anyone who has actually played XBL, its a real source.

Anyone who disagrees. You're welcome to come over my house and play an hour of call of duty and hear the conversations.

And nothing is wrong with that. We shouldnt have to censor ourselves for little kids when we're playing a game intended only for adults. We shouldnt have to watch our mouths. I should be able to talk like Im at a bar, not like Im at an elementary school.

Are parents just stupid then?

Child+hours playing games with guns= (or should) i might want to think about this.

I honestly don't see call of duty as a game of issue since kids are not concerned with ethics (not to mention its just a game). Grand theft auto is more of an issue for me.

The point is any person pay 60 bucks and not checking into what they are buying and then complaining is a moron. As a parent you should always check to see if anything is good for your child. If they buy a game and notice a bad change in behaviour then they should remove the game from the child.

That seriously isn't hard to think of. This is probably the only time i would want to see what primo or Bigblack bear says seeing as they are parents.

It doesn't matter if it is or is not actually harmful to kids. What matters is if parents perceive it to be harmful. That's all that really matters. If your mom and dad would flip out at a game's content, then they see it as harmful. If they don't care, then it isn't.

The point of this is that parents (meaning adults) are the ones who drive legislation, and they aren't always fully informed.

Given the shooting at Sandy Hook there is a current trend of scapegoating. People want to blame something or someone. Games and gaming has fallen into the sights. Such a move by Microsoft would be seen as an industry leader willing to police itself.

That's the only reason I give any credence to this rumor. Had it come out 3 months ago, before Sandy Hook, then I would have dismissed it out of hand. But I remember being a gamer when Mortal Kombat flipped out Tipper Gore, and the ESRB came into existence to appease her and every angry mother she represented.

Who says Call of Duty is intended only for adults? I'm sure the ESRB recommends that only adults play it.
Where I live, kids are banned from bars after 8. You can do whatever you want then because it is against the law for them to be there. Please show the law that says it's illegal for kids to play M games.
