Im gettin the new Xbox when Halo 5 comes out... and Ill be 18 by then so its ok.

You just got Sl1cEd!

In the US, you only need to be 17 for M games, so I should be all set.

  • 01.02.2013 2:07 PM PDT

Im 18 and i find this idea completely stupid.

Why not stop by my File Share while you're here?

~Long Live Halo 2
Only regret is I didn't play more of it.

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm sort of a jerk.

This. It really won't solve much, if anything at all.

I don't see why the parents cannot swipe with their cards and then let the child play?

Thats right charlie, abandon thread.
I had to go and pick my wife up from work. I am allowed to have a life outside of the Flood, you know.

Now, where did we leave off?

That's right, everyone posting that minors make up the largest audience (they don't), that kids will just steal their parents ID's (ignoring that mom and dad will wonder why junior keeps doing so) and that "its not fair to let kids play games designed for adults."

We're in repetition mode. I should just start copying one pat reply of everyone, and no matter what you post, just paste it. Then let you work out which applies to you.

Like I said, its a rumor. One I hope is true, but a rumor nonetheless. The details were vague, as rumors often are, and we can really get very little from it.

The one and only reason I give this one a possiblity is that there is a lot of attention being paid to the gaming industry, most of it negative. I could very easily see one of the bigger manufacturers, ie Microsoft, stepping up and doing this to get the heat off their backs. If it meant the choice between swiping my DL every time I wanted to play CoD or losing the shooter as a genre...I'll vote in my own interest.

You don't have a civil right to play video games. If a manufacturer or the government mandated this, it would happen and there is nothing you could do about it.

Lol.

AND HERE IS WHY MICROSOFT WOULD DO IT

To stop this from happening. What's a bigger loss? Losing the shooter as a game type, or losing minors as M rated game customers?

That just plain retardation, we can't blame the shooter sl let's find something else to put blame on. Changing the age limit won't matter because it will be a matter of time before something else in society gets blamed for events like that. I doubt they would so this in all honesty they would lose a large portion of their profits. And if we speak realistically Microsoft I'm sure would rather go to court than lose millions of dollars.

You're missing the point. This shows that people want change. Not all people, but enough vocal people to make something happen.

So the main demographic of Xbox players would not be able to play mature games?

Yeah that isn't going to happen. Though it would be nice.

To perhaps get it looked at by the court perhaps. But to officially think the law will change because a small group says so is fairly unrealistic.

Highly doubt it. MS would lose a lot of money if they did.

Prohibition made it to the US Constitution by one such vocal minority. Don't underestimate the power of a loud minority.

Yea but now youre talking about two different times in history. You mention a loud minority, but wouldn't you say the teens of our time are the loudest yet with social media? Like I said when the console releases in sure many children will still be online like usual.

"You get what you put into it."

When Legendary is too mainstream, you have Heroic. When you're the leader of the church of MLGeezus, have Epic in your username, and can't write 'About Me's' to save your life, what do you get?

This guy. And now, an side note: Most things I post contain lethal doses of sarcasm, so be warned, and try not to take me seriously.

Finally, a message to Bungie trolls everywhere.

I'm not buying the 720 if or when it comes out down the road, so this doesn't bother me the slightest.

Can kids vote? Nope. Pissed off soccer moms can. Politicians only listen to voters.

The idea is to finally have means to enforce the ESRB rating system, that parents and store clerks ignore.
ESRB is a recommendation, not a requirement. It only means that games outside of an age range can't be sold to people outside of it.

  • 01.02.2013 3:07 PM PDT

People always look to what they didn't have as kids to blame for why they think a generation is "bad" Most parents nowadays likely didn't play as much video games as kids today do, and if they do they aren't like the ones we have today. So when something like the Newtown Massacre occurs they think "We'd have never done that when we were young. What did he grow up with that we didn't? I know videogames! Therefore videogames must cause this!" Correlation does not imply causation. Go back 50 years and if something like this had happened they'd blame it on TV or Rock and Roll because the parents didn't grow up with them. Who knows maybe if this happened 100 years ago people would blame radio.

according to the rumor, it only applies to M rated games. The console would have some sort of card reader, which would read or scan a drivers license or such in order to play.

The ESRB is supposed to limit sales of adult oriented games, and inform the customer. This is rumored to limit the ability to play.

After reading the thread, I agree on that a stricter form of regulation for games probably will come, one way or another.
