Subject: Found a major plot hole in the walking dead

If zombies are so easy, then how the hell could the world even be overpowered? Only fat old and incapacitated people would die and become zombies. I have absolutely no fighting experience and I could probably kill half a dozen walking dead zombies at once with a freaking tire iron, C'mon.

Discuss and explain if possible

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

This zombie apocalypse issue is not exclusive to The Walking Dead. Most genres ignore their plot holes for the sake of the genre's awesomeness (ex; a lot of technology in science fiction is not possible)

For all questions with answers unknown to you, the proper procedure is to assume the answer is peanut butter.

While that may be true, I'm just going to pretend otherwise.

Sheer numbers + limited supplies + a population that is, for the most part, very dependent + exhaustion = zombies overwhelming people with sheer numbers

That simple.

i found a major plot hole in toy story, if buzz doesn't know that he's a toy, why doesn't he talk when people are around?

  • 01.02.2013 10:29 AM PDT

Please do not send me group invites.

Sheer numbers, bro.

SPOILERS

You see what happens when they are holed up in the prison. There's only 4 or 5 of the survivors together at one time, and if 40 walkers come at them and only one person has a gun, the rest are forced to hit/stab them at a close range, meaning they have to get really close to the walkers, increasing the chance they get bitten.

Also, the small corridors in the prison make for a bad way to get away from walkers.

Because giant primates could pose a threat?

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

Fear/panic make the living part of the problem. If you really think most people would keep their head when seeing the dead reanimate and start snacking on the living then you give humanity far too much credit. After people have come to terms with what is going on, then they can react, but by then a fair amount of damage would be done.

Spoilers***

You need to keep in mind also that with The Walking Dead it isn't a typical virus that just sprung up and is spread by a bite, everyone is infected and reanimates after death. Thats a pretty big problem.

For the sake of plot.
I thought it had something to do with how the eagles don't give a -blam!- about human affairs much and that they only helped because they would die without it.

This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends;
Not with a bang but a whimper.

Ignorance to the situation is the key to it. Also the fact that everyone is infected created a lot of surprises in the panic that preceded the total outbreak. They didn't understand nor wanted to confirm what was happening.

Watched The Hobbit movie *spoilers* Same plot hole as the trilogy.

Friend who read the series religiously falls back on "It's about the journey."

No adequate explanation in books from what I've seen.

Always bothered me because throughout the first bit of the show you saw plenty of people with no head trauma that were just dead.

i.e., when they first get to the traffic pileup in Season 2 and Karl goes to retrieve the axes from the dead guy's truck and they are tucked under his arm (and he pulls the dead guy onto him and he gets scared). The dead guy had no head injury but was just dead - why didn't he reanimate?

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

Implausible plot != plot hole

Besides, everybody knows that the scary thing about the zombie apocalypse isn't the zombies themselves, it's the breakdown of society. Read up on George Romero and understand the art of the zombie movie.

Yea, that kind of got me as well. Spoiler below**

It's weak but in season 3 they do explain that the dead can starve, so that would be the only excuse I could think of. But you're right, it doesn't make all that much sense when you look back on the series up to the point of the big twist at the end of season 2.

I gaze upon the stars and see the majesty that is the universe.

EGO mos bulla astrum.

In the beginning would you believe that zombies were real? If a crazy guy came and bit you that might sound believable but by the time it's taken seriously it'd be too late.

  • 01.02.2013 10:44 AM PDT

On the Left

Godshatter: I can go all the way with someone without being attracted to them.
CamCamm: How does that work?
Godshatter: I'm easily aroused by anything that moves. It's a curse.
Brain says 'No, that's ugly', body says 'ugly is fine with me'.

Im guessing in the Walking Dead universe they did not know of the Zombie lore. So they did not know how to take care of them with a headshot. Plus, everyone is infected. No matter what happens, you'll die and become a walker.

Yeah, I haven't seen S3. But if that is the case, I think of both the zombie in the well in Season 2 and the guy who tried to hang himself and reanimated in the tree in Season 2... both were out of food for quite a while I'm sure.

Meh.

Most of what I say is sarcasm, the rest is of the highest intellect.

ACTUALLY

LOTR:
For one, the eagles don't take orders from humans, not even gandalf, and even if they did Sauron has nine fellbeasts to stop them if they tried, so the risk would be too great.

The Hobbit:
The same sort of applies about them not taking orders, but other than that I've got nothing.

I think during the first part of the apocalypse all of the chaos and people freaking out. Not enough information being given out. People being caught off guard, etc.

Did anyone watch Contagion when it came out in theaters? I love the concept and how they show sort of a more realistic approach to it. It was very chaotic. The news couldn't show everything and everyone, people didn't know what was happening, how they would get it, etc.
