Subject: So I'm downloading WoW...

It seems there's no middle ground for this game. Either it's amazing or I should convince myself that it never exists haha
There is. Just that people won't admit that it's a great game with great side stories and fun social aspect.

I haven't played it since before Mists of Pandaria (sp) was released late-summer, but, it's a great game. I'd recommend getting some friends early on, I always found it less enjoyable solo, overall.

It went to hell for Mists of Pandaria. Pretty much everyone I knew has quit and the only reason I play now is to have fun on some smaller server with one of my friends.

I don't know what spawned this hatred for WoW on the Flood.

OT: Well it's THE MOST successful MMO, I'd say you'd enjoy it.

Fixed.

Here is my advice.

If you actually get into it, which I don't think you will because you're going to be leveling alone for the most part. Leveling is the grind portion that makes most players quit because they don't know what they're doing and they end up taking months to reach the max level because they're not devoted.
The thing that makes World of Warcraft World of Warcraft is the end game content. Whether it be PVPing or running raids and Heroic Dungeons, you'll have a great time once you get your gear. Even getting your gear is enjoyable. Sadly, this is the part that is what makes the game a "life stealer", getting your gear will take quite a bit of playing in battlegrounds or dungeons and raids . The problem is , when you get the best armour you can get you're going to realize that you can actually get better armour but it requires you to make an arena team (you can only get a certain allotted amount of points each week to go towards armour at this level) so it will take a month, if not more of dedicated playing to get the top armor. That's after you reach max level which will take you a month, if not more.
While it doesn't seem that bad, to get that max armour you actually have to be good and have to actually know other people that are good. By good, I mean great and learning how to play your class , gemming up, setting up everything, etc will take A LONG time to be efficient in an arena. You basically have to know everything your enemy is doing and you have to know how to counter that. So not only do you have to learn your class (and spec), you have to learn their classes and specs.

So , in the end it will take you over a year to actually amount to anything in Azeroth.

If you have people that know how to play (I doubt you do), have them teach you and guide you during leveling. If you know what you're doing you can hit max level in two weeks, maybe a little more.

Play in moderation and if you ever think you are taking awhile to get to the next level, ask someone if there is a better leveling or if you are in the wrong area. Trust me, the game will lose it's charm if you get stuck in a grind, I only continued playing the game because I had a break and came back.

Stopped playing now but it's still a good game.

Most amusing. You're comparing one of the kings of gaming to something that has seen a population decline already, kind of like Swotor. Give it a year and it'll be dead, if that.

I have over 30 days played on my main character alone. The sad part about that, I haven't even reached max level because MoP came out before I got back from basic so I've decided to wait until college starts to get back into it. So for me to be efficient at level 90 (and to actually reach 90), I'll probably end up with 45-50 days logged on that character before I quit playing again.

Not to say your opinion is wrong but how exactly?

Ad Infinitum

I've played WoW, and GW2. Overall, WoW is an "easier" game to start with so I'll say WoW is the better game. I've also always struggled to find people to play with in GW2. There's no shortage of people to play with in WoW though, depending on the server.

Both are great games, but I prefer WoW because it's easier to socialize in that game (at least for me).

Halo: CE Anniversary Achievement Idea
C-C-C-CANNON BREAKER!
Let Sgt. Johnson die on Halo.

I used to play WoW long ago. It was great at the time, but I'm no longer a fan of it. If you're into Star Wars, give SWTOR a try. It's also free to play and pretty damn fun!

I own both, and prefer WoW.

Better lore, NPC's, great art style, more skills, bigger variety of races/classes...

The starting few zones in GW2 are dead already, less than 6 months after the release of the game (and I'm on a "full" server), whereas the starting zones in WoW still have hundreds of people 8 years after the game released.

GW2 is a good game, but WoW is better.

Fun? Yes very. Though it is very fun, it lacks end game and decent pvp.

I've been a PC gamer for 4 years. When I started I swore to myself I would NEVER play that game. Don't do it op. Don't do it.
Why not? It just supplies you with years of fun.

Two makes there more than speakers.

You people act like children when it comes to WoW (as well as a lot of other things).

Ignore the bandwagon haters OP, play it. I had recently got back into WoW because my brother recruited me.

  • 01.02.2013 3:03 PM PDT

Without friends to play it with, it's nowhere near worth 15 dollars a month. Not that it is even with friends, but still. I wouldn't play it unless there were people I knew would go through it with me.

I haven't really found any haters in here, most of them are just saying don't play it because you'll become addicted, which is actually a compliment.

Cool.

I just started playing myself. It's pretty good. My PC sucks though, so I can only play on the lowest settings.

Yeah I've been playing it, doesn't seem too bad actually. Annoying because I can't play with my friend as I'm a free member but I might just buy a membership and see if I'll enjoy it. I can always cancel it...

I got killed 3 times by some mangy wolf though...hahaha I'm a noob XD
