Don't judge a book by its cover, unless it has bacon on the cover, then it is a good book.

-Me

favorite game of all time

  • 01.02.2013 3:32 PM PDT

It's very limited and is held back from it's true potential by numerous problems and shortcomings, but it's a decent game. Just watch out for stray glitches and bugs.

Oblivion is better on PC with the overhaul mods.

Fallout New Vegas and Fallout 3 is better anyway. Also Hylebos speaks the truth.

I think we understand that the other games can be liked more, but does that make Skyrim a bad game? Not at all. Skyrim is one of the best games of all time, in my opinion. Amazing sound track, and a game on a newer gen console that focuses on the story mode rather than online. So simple, yet very fun.

It's good on the console, but the PC version is absolutely outstanding.

Personally I was highly disappointed with it, I'm just suggesting that the OP buys fallout first.

You'll love it. If you like stories you will love it, if you like loot, weapons, magic, exploration, grand vistas, battles, dilemnas you will love it.

If you dislike bugs and glitches you will hate it to your very core. The game is riddled with really really annoying bugs and game crashes happen a lot (though not as much as FO3 or NV).

Personally I think its the best game I've played in 2012 and I still play it today thanks to the awesome DLCs.

The good is that you have a gigantic world to explore, filled with unique places to go, dungeons, caves and the like. Lots of loot, weaponry, quests and the like.

The bad is its dull combat system, fetch quests, decreased amount of skills and enemies, and generally being a step down from Oblivion in terms of anything to do with combat options.

gets stale fast once you get past the illusion that your actions do nothing to change the world.

It's fun and I have played it quite a lot, but it lacks some of the better RPG features of previous Elder Scrolls. The removal of attributes and the fact that skills don't scale unless you pick perks makes it feel much less in depth than Oblivion. But it is expansive and the world feels alive.

YES

This explains my disappointment for the game perfectly.

"What are we holding on to, Sam?"
"That there's some good in this world, and it's worth fighting for."

Yeah, it's good. I don't think it's as good as Morrowind (my favorite) or Oblivion, but it's still a good game that I put 100 hours into. I think it got highly simplified, but I still had a good time with it.

I love it.

Pros:

Huge open world to explore

great replay value

a lot of detail put into weapons and armor

good voice acting and character animations

extremely fun quest

tons of items to collect

DLC is some of the best if not the best DLC I have ever purchased

Cons:

Not many enemy variations

Combat can become dull

Main quest has low replay value (IMO)

DLC's are expensive

Still some glitches

Tips: If you don't mind spending money get the Dragonborn DLC (the newest one) it is simply amazing and it expands the already huge world of Skyrim. If you don't mind spending $45 get all 3 DLC's. They are all amazing

Yes it's a fun game, I just recently started playing again.

  • 01.02.2013 4:09 PM PDT

Hell yes.
It has thousands of hours of gameplay, the graphics are superb (minus some minor clipping on the Xbox 360), the world is deep and full of things to explore, quests will keep you occupied for a long time (minus some repetition and mediocre variety after a while), and combat is playable enough (better than most RPGs).

Overall, it's a very in-depth, detailed, playable, and brilliant 10/10 game on today's market.

  • 01.02.2013 4:09 PM PDT

For Skyrim!

Antagonizing me to build a false sense of worth is so damn cute.

Brighten your day with science.

I started playing it about two weeks ago.

It's pretty good.

^You prefer Morrowind the most, right?^
Ah, that was a great game. So much nostalgia from that.

Aside from the bugs and glitches, and possibly the combat, first time TES players don't find many problems with Skyrim.

As a player since Morrowind, these would be my criticisms of Skyrim:
-"Cities" are laughably small, and the game has broken the tradition of having a central "hub/grand" city that is HUGE in every game.
-Removal of interesting skills such as Athletics and Acrobatics (destroying my Ninja Assassin Build)
-Generalizing the skills and leveling up system (though this makes it easier for newcomers and casuals)
-Quests lack creativity (e.g - where are the quests like "Whodunit?" from Oblivion?). Most of the quests involve fetching items or going from A to B, or killing this thing or that thing.
-Civil War was a let down (those -blam!- unkillable commanders in the remaining enemy camps!) due to the lack of variety in ending it (no option for taking Ulfric prisoner, for example) and the fact there was no resistance movement or underground backlash from the defeated party.

That's about all the troubles I've had with the game, and I've played ALL of Bethesda's games, and clocked up nearly 300 hours on Skyrim. It's still a worthy purchase and everyone should play it given the opportunity.
