Well, I'm in dire straits so I'm trying here...
I have recently purchased The Sims2: Special DVD Edition from EA.com's online store. When I recieved it, the game disk cannot be accessed by my DVD-CD-Rom drive! After trying it on my laptop, I discovered the problem - the CD is deffected; the hole in the middle of the CD had rough edges and my drive, with its CD tray, could not grip the CD because the device could not fit through the CD's hole (if that makes sense - don't know the tech term). It worked on the laptop because in the laptop, I had to manually insert the CD onto the tray, along with pushing the CD through the revolving device that spins the CD through the hole in the CD. The laptop, since its DVD capable, can read the disk. What results on my computer is a whirring noise as the computer tries to grip the disk, and the disk just clanks around in the drive, all the while, my computer doesn't acknowledge that a disk is there (through My Computer). So, the other disks are all fine. But its the game disk I need, afterall, thats why I bought the game.
Now, currently, my 90 day warranty is still in effect. It advises me to ship the product back to them in its original container. But do I pay for this shipping and handling AGAIN?
I checked online tech support, but I can't even talk to the tech guys because I don't have my game registered, and in order to do that currently, you must be able to read the disk (or in my case, have the computer actually be able to make use of the disk). The EA Sims2 site says there is currently no other way to register your game.
Thus, my dilemma. No tech support, just printed instructions.
Should I ship the game back as defected product and pay for shipping? Afterall, its they're fault for shipping defected products...
Any thoughts? Please?
