See the rapist.
I don't like rap.

*facepalm*

If Rayleigh scattering radiates blue light in the atmospheres molecules because of its small wavelength, wouldn't it be more efficient for violet to be selected since it has an even smaller wavelength?

Because it's blue.

I don't know. How does I cake?

If we disagree, it's nothing personal, opinions are opinions.
Antagonizing me to build a false sense of worth is so damn cute.

Brighten your day with science.

Because blue > violet.

Basic math.

I'll bring the tritium laser cutters if you bring the beer!

Funny story.

If Rayleigh scattering absorbs then radiates blue light in the atmospheres molecules because of its small wavelength, wouldn't it be more efficient for violet to be selected since it has an even smaller wavelength?
Blue isn't absorbed OP, otherwise you wouldn't see it.

My mistake.

My question still stands, though.

Glory and fame, blood is our name!
Souls full of thunder, hearts of steel!
Killers of men, a warrior's friend!
Sworn to avenge our fallen brothers!
Sons of the gods, today we shall die.
Open Valhalla's door!
Let the battle begin, with swords in the wind! Hail Gods of War!

It's nothing to do with the shortest wavelength winning. It's just a coincidence that nitrogen absorbs a band of wavelengths that fall under blue light.

The other half not so much.

I know that you got that question from xkcd.

Because shut up, you don't know how -blam!- works. What's wrong with blue, huh? Do you have some kind of vendetta against it?

Jerk.

  • 01.02.2013 6:36 PM PDT

you want to know the truth?

the earth is actually encased in a giant energy shield, because the earth lost it's protection from sunlight decades ago. the shield is invisible unless it is actively repelling sun rays, in which case it creates a bluish tint, this is why the sky is blue during the day and why you can't see it at night

I saw this on xkcd a little while back. Now someone in this thread has finally answered it, I can stop wondering!
