Subject: Our existence, as a whole, is just plain depressing

Allons-y!

I think about this sparsely because I realize I won't get anywhere with it, because this isn't something you can share your views about to other people, because they'll either not understand it, or completely disagree. Not to mention I deem it as pointless to attempt to understand, anyway.

<(-_-)> Teh mokey is not amused

Technically, it's neither depressing nor happy. Even the most famous of people will be forgotten over the course of time you you'd better damn well get used to it.

From the ashes

Anyway, does anybody else ever think about this?

It's normal to contemplate life, your role in it, and what you want it to become. However, I generally feel it's pointless to fret about your current place. It's bound to change, and among the way countless opportunities will present them-self.

When it comes to memory, everyone in time will be forgotten. Famous or not, when no one bothers to remember the past, only time will remember the names of those we forgot.

What helps me deal with these thoughts, is knowing that if I try to get what I want done with my allotted time; when my day comes I'll face death and know I lead a good life I'm happy with. Cause I don't need to be remembered after my time, I want to die content. If I happen to be remembered after, then it's simply a byproduct of what I worked for.

I doubt this will really help, but we all deal with it differently. Gotta find an answer to keep you rolling.

"When Embarking the journey of revenge you should dig 2 graves" -Confucious. Also I like firefight not for the credits but for fun. Also like Campaign but I don't play it that much. Favorite Weapon: Battle Rifle and Light Rifle.

We have no purpose. We make a "illusion" of purpose.

Think about it. Before we were born, what were we, exactly? Nobody knows, and I don't think we will ever know that. So we're born, raised in this dangerous world where things as small as a spider bite can kill you, and whatever the length of your life is, you're gone.

Close family members like children and grandchildren remember you, but after that, unless you become extremely famous or if you make a major breakthrough that changes the world, you're forgotten forever. Why are we so fortunate to be born in this day and age? Why us? I know religion plays a huge part in this, but what happens to us when we die? Whenever I think about this I get chills down my spine and my fear of dying returns. Maybe there is a glorius after life for us when we pass, but what were we doing before we lived? Everything in this damn world does not make any sense, and I fear the day when I'm older ready to face death head on.

Anyway, does anybody else ever think about this?

Your mind is completely destroyed and you no longer exist. All we can do is ensure that our species continues to survive and thrive on its path of glorious ascension. Our purpose is to advance our race and hope that eventually it reaches the day that the last man dies, and death is no longer known by mankind, or whatever has evolved from -blam!- sapiens and is worthy of its legacy.

If you only focused on the big picture. If you saw humanity as an entity and looked at the amazing things it has accomplished in such a short time.

I'm religious, so I don't fear what comes after death. And I have a meaning in life.

Actually, I think the point that is being made, is that religion gives them a purpose. You have to find your own purpose, cause just one option isn't the all-around answer. What works for some, won't work for others.

I used to want fame, so people will remember me. But then I thought about it, who cares?

Who cares whether or not other people talk about me? I'm dead, and I don't know whether they will or wont.

The prospects for the continuation of your "ego" (IE, sense of self, personality, etc.) after death are not good. Looking at the link between perception and the material properties of the brain confirms that a functioning brain is necessary for a self to exist, and your brain ceases to function after death. So, death is the end of self. If you want to understand the significance of death, understand the significance of self.

Well to be honest I've come to the conclusion that life has no purpose. So I'm just going to stick around to see where life takes me and whenever death comes then I guess it's my time. It's inevitable so I do not see the point in worrying about it.

'Κύριε Ἰησοῦ Χριστέ, Υἱὲ τοῦ Θεοῦ, ἐλέησόν με τὸν ἁμαρτωλόν.'

I find solace in religion. I won't go any further--but the one thing that religion offers is answers to the types of questions that empirical scientific reasoning cannot answer.

I would rather have half an explanation based in math than 100 percent explanation from a book that has been revised a few times over the course of 2000 years.

Also off topic so, yeah

( well not of topic but religion/ forum rules )

This.

However what probably scares me most is pain. Pain that gets worse and wont subside until death. That would suck knowing the only release from the pain is death.

> you me ?
i don't fear death per say, only painful death. I want my transition into nothing to be peaceful.

I love life. There is something in everyday to be happy about no matter how big or small if you take the time to notice.

Life s a gift. It may not have a purpose but all the best gifts are novelties anyway.
