He who wishes for peace must first prepare for war.

I make really good grades and I'm not trying to have a relationship, so I defeat your idea.

And I have a life.

Life?
I have the internet and Doctor Who; i don't need a life.

well no hope for me then; i'm already out.

“If we will disbelieve everything, because we cannot certainly know all things, we shall do much what as wisely as he who would not use his legs, but sit still and perish, because he had no wings to fly.” - John Locke

"How can anyone be enlightened? Truth after all is so poorly lit." - Rush

I went to high school with many who were dating, yet still unhappy, and many who weren't dating, yet still happy. Being social undoubtedly makes one happy and helps the high school experience, however dating is only one facet of social life.

I don't accept your unfounded postulation.

Jacoby

I disagree. I waited until college. Wouldn't have wanted to go about it any other way. Also, people should be able to motivate themselves simply by knowing the benefits of life that hard-work will bring them.

It was then that I decided he really is like semen(everywhere) and I gave up on life.

Some of the skills you get from dating will help oyu out for the rest of your life.
I simply do not agree with this.
In terms of interacting and dating others.

And why not?
Interacting with people, sure. Dating? No way is that important later on in life enough to where it should be crucial while in high school in order to have a successful future.

  • 01.03.2013 11:12 AM PDT

I don't think dating is important for the reasons you mentioned, and I don't think it's crucial in high school at all. But I would recommend it: at worst, it's a learning experience.

Would gladly give up my good grades for a good social life.

I'd say this can vary depending on when you marry. Someone who dates until their mid- or late-30s is relying on those skills a hell of a lot more than someone who marries at 22, for example.

I gaze upon the stars and see the majesty that is the universe.

EGO mos bulla astrum.

It's not necessary or crucial. Is it fun? Sure. Is it needed in social development? Not really.

-blam!- that

Most people in high school aren't mature enough for a fully committed relationship.

Nice analysis

"Team shoot the wraith!"
"What's a team shoot and what's a wraith?!"
"It means we all shoot at the big blue thing together!"
"Okay!"

I agree with the OP, just not to the same extreme. The main thing that is annoying is that everyone here acts like there aren't any people worth dating at their school and I find that very hard to believe. You know damn well you'd be in a relationship if you could.

And everyone saying high schoolers aren't mature enough is wrong. What do you think goes on in a relationship that requires some extreme level of maturity that someone in high school doesn't have? It's just being intimately involved with someone else, it's not as complex as you guys seem to think.

I've talked with a friend who went through life in a similar fashion to how you described and are thankful the military is willing to accept them

Yeah and I smoked weed everyday in high school and didn't worry about my grades at all and still managed to get good grades in all AP classes. Now I'm a contract programmer and going to college for computer science. Point being that there are always exceptions on either side that you point to.

Bro, at my high school, they're all uber-conservative zealots who some of are even creationists, and all of them snore and have no interest in my interests. The only thing that I enjoy is Science in History, and they don't, or no-where near the level I do. I'm just waiting for junior college and college, I highly doubt they're be nearly brain-dead idiots taking a non-required Paleontology class, or be aiming for a career in Paleontology.
lol.

just, lol.

I'm a dude playing a dude desguised as another dude. I hate heritics, non-logical thoughts and people who are better than I am. People tell me that they like a lot of games, but I hate them all. Whenever I play a video game, I always go crawling back to Halo 3. Never go full retard!

I got through High School just fine with only one 2 month relationship and that's it. Dating is not crucial in High School at all.

And you want to know why? Because there's a lot more to school than getting good grades, but there's also a lot more to life than fun. You need a balance, and you're not going to get that unless you feel good. You can't be successful if you aren't content.

In order to get good grades, you need to have the motivation to do what needs to get done. In order to maintain motivation, you need either motives are comfort. You're not going to get that comfort unless you're living happily. For the foreveraloners and nerds out there, you can continue to tell yourself otherwise, but you're going to eventually run out of your motivation. When you spend every night playing Xbox after you finish your homework, you're eventually going to question the rinsing and repeating.

However, the opposite is true, too: You cannot be social and happy if you do not have the means to do so. In high school, you need nothing. But after high school, if your foresight wasn't long enough, you drop into a pit of sorrow and regret, living a boring and tedious existence selling t-shirts at Walmart.

You can be a nerd and still have friends, but are going to be happy? No. You need to meet someone that makes you feel good for who you are. You need to do what all humans are meant to do.

Date. Find someone you love. And even if you don't find that person in high school (which you most likely won't), you'll still find out what you want.

Dating is crucial in high school for both comfort, future knowledge, and... life.
Dating in High School is also good if you want to get an STD early on too ; ). In all seriousness, I know what you mean.. Almost all my good High School friends are about to get married or are married to other High School friends.. Only one of those marriages so far I severely question its stability. I'm SO glad I never stayed with any of the ones I dated.. Talk about freaking low standards -_-. Now I only go after AAA title women ^_^

People exaggerate that so much. It's not that bad of a problem as people think it is.

GOAT

I think dating in high school is important for the confidence it gives you. It helps you focus on the things that matter too.

I see all your guys' points but I still disagree. I didn't do much dating in High School at all. Yeah it gives you confidence and yeah you might find the person you love (doubt it) and yeah it's a way to distract you from school work and gives you good social skills... yadda yadda yadda

But I didn't do much dating in High School and I turned out fine. My other friends who didn't date much turned out fine too. Plus just wait until you get to college. That's where the fun really starts anyway.
