Subject: Will There Ever Be Another Star Wars?

I do not mean that literally. I'm asking if you think there will ever be another science fiction series that will have the same - or similar - impact on popular culture that 'Star Wars' did. Films that we can call classics one day.

Do you believe that day will ever come?

Studies show that men think about sex every 7 seconds. I do my best to eat hotdogs in under 6, just so things don't get weird.

Yup.

It's only a matter of time before a young writer/director gets tired of the studio system and decides to go off and try something bold and new. Just have patience. It will happen.

It failed in the name of art

The rights to Star Wars have been sold by LucasFilm and bought by Disney so you can possibly expect another Star Wars film (source below)

The original trilogy is certainly the best science fiction trilogy in gaming thus far. Like someone else said, Mass Effect came close to topping it, but failed hard in its last few minutes.

A good trilogy needs a good ending.

Dear tomorrow, Find some sensibility, Respond to emotion.
Dear Politician, Define sagacity,
All chances of survival are beginning to diminish.
Comedy is no excuse for our own blasphemies.
Mass media, Mass pessimism, Mass Denial.
My television tells me to panic, but I don't think I'll listen.
The apathetic force us to persevere, with their backwards priorities.

I think once something becomes a classic, it cannot be replaced/reached. That is what makes it a classic. Classics also age like wine, becoming more popular and loved by more people entering the world.

I would think Halo is a bigger name in terms of Sci-fi than Mass Effect.

Though both are/were nowhere near the fame of Star Wars.

Yes, I think so. I personally find that Sci-Fi is the best when it's a one hit wonder. I'm thinking of Moon and Gattaca btw.

If we disagree, it's nothing personal, opinions are opinions.
Antagonizing me to build a false sense of worth is so damn cute.

Bungie is aiming to create the next 'Star Wars'. Well at least Jason Jones says so:

Bungie is trying to "create a universe as deep, tangible, and relatable as that of the 'Star Wars' franchise"

That's a stupidly unrealistic goal. It's a lofty one, and everyone should aim for the stars, but knowing when a goal is out of your reach is important in the gaming business.

Trying to create a universe as deep and relatable as Star Wars is impossible. Wars is ingrained in the social consciousness, and has been so for 40 years. Professing that they're trying to make the next Star Wars is tantamount to shooting themselves in the foot: it'll build up too much hype.

I just want Destiny to be different. Lucas tried something different and risky at the time when he made Star Wars, and look at where it is now.

Mass Effect came close? Mass Effect had zero impact on pop culture. It wasn't going to no matter what.

Everyone young and old knows who Darth Vader is. That's having a cultural impact. Can't say anything similiar about Mass Effect.
